Jules Verne (1828-1905) used a combination of scientific facts and his imagination to take readers on extraordinary imaginative journeys to fantastic places. In such books as Around the World in Eighty Days, From the Earth to the Moon, and Journey to the Center of the Earth, he predicted many technological advances of the twentieth century, including the invention of the automobile, telephone, and nuclear submarines, as well as atomic power and travel to the moon by rocket.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Another interesting Jules Verne adventure from the days before humankind knew the answers to the earth that we know now. Such an imagination! I've found these Classic Starts enjoyable as a way to quickly hear the books I missed in my childhood 60+ years ago.
This old tale had a few peculiar twists and turns that are a little strange for modern readers. The opinions about how men should treat animals occasionally rubbed me the wrong way. But keep in mind that they were appropriate for the time.
