About this audiobook

When investigator Gabriel Chavez had his cover blown by an aggressive reporter, the silver lining was being able to rejoin the dive team. The downside? Dive team captain Anissa Bell--a woman who both fascinates and frustrates him. Anissa grew up as a missionary kid on the Micronesian island of Yap and always planned to return after college. But she remained stateside, determined to solve the case that haunts her--the murder of her best friend and the disappearance of a three-year-old child. When Anissa's fractured past collides with Gabe's investigation into the tragic shooting death of a teenage boy in Lake Porter, they'll have to put their complicated history with each other aside in order to uncover the identity of a killer. What they'll discover is that revenge has no statute of limitations. Award-winning author Lynn H. Blackburn closes out her nail-biting Dive Team Investigations series with a story that will have you wondering how long you can hold your breath.

Title: One Final Breath (Dive Team Investigations #3)Author: Lynn H. BlackburnPages: 320Year: 2019Publisher: RevellMy rating is 4 out of 5 stars.Gabe Chavez is an investigator with the Carrington County Sheriff’s Office. He also works on their dive team when needed. He is the lead on the case of a murdered teenage boy who was shot while out on a local lake. The lead of the dive team, Anissa Bell, appears to be a thorn in Gabe’s side. He secretly is attracted to her but likes to annoy and tease her. She rises to the bait most of the time, but she also hides her attraction to him. They must work together on this case as it happened on water, so the dive team is called into action while Gabe works the case on land. The more time they spend together working the case, the closer they grow together. However, Anissa is hiding something from her past that effects how she perceives herself and how she thinks other see her. Then, an attempt is made on Anissa’s life. Is it related to her past or to the current murder investigation? Gabe goes into protective mode, but Anissa is having any of it. She can take care of herself. With the help of other investigators in the sheriff’s office, which are characters from the prior two novels in the series, the team slowly begins to make headway in the case. Can they keep Anissa safe? Who wants her off the case…permanently?I enjoyed the interplay and humor between Gabe and Anissa, as well as between the other members of the team. The faith of the members of the team was such a joy to see as they didn’t leave their faith at church on Sunday but lived it out daily. The sparks that flew between Gabe and Anissa crackled and had me in the moment with them. I loved the ending!Note: The opinions shared in this review are solely my responsibility.

One of the greatest book discoveries for me in 2020 was the Dive Team investigations series by Lynn Blackburn. I found them thanks to other book reviewers on Instagram and I am so glad I gave them a chance. How did I miss these when they released? They are the epitome of everything I love about the genre of romantic suspense. All of them are full of swoonworthy heroes who repeatedly save the day, but not because the heroines are weak and need rescuing. It is quite the opposite actually. All of the women are smart and independent, but find themselves in some pretty precarious situations. I like that each of the three couples relationships develop throughout the book. Instant relationships would just not be believable given the characters backgrounds and nail-biting situations going on in each story. It's not surprising that my favorite part of the series by far was the page-turning suspense! Each book hooked me from the beginning and I found myself totally surprised at the end! I really don't think I could pick a favorite hero, heroine, or book in the series. I loved them all!The blessing in disguise with finding this series late was I got to binge read the entire series so there was no waiting in between!Note: The novella, Unseen Enemy, is available to the author's newsletter subscribers and is a connector between this series and the first book in her new series which releases this spring. Can't wait!

A teenage boy is shot and it is up to the dive team to determine why and who. Other murders and disasters follow and they have to decide if they are related to the teen's murder and the how and why. Anissa and Gabe are the lead investigators on this and as the investigation heats up so do their feelings for each other.I enjoyed this book. I like Anissa. She is strong and spunky. I also liked the depth of her character. I liked Gabe and the way he learned to give her space but still supported her even when angry with her. I liked the teens in the story and how they helped each other through their problems--which I don't want to give away as they are key to the story. I was pulled out of the story a few times as the characters talked about God and praying as I am not used to that in a romantic suspense story. It fits but seemed unusual to me. The mystery was interesting but I had the wrong suspect as I usually do. While part of a series this can be read as a standalone. As soon as I find the first two books in my house (I know I have them but I am remodeling) I will be reading them as the characters are interesting and I want to know the other team members stories.

Good Read. This book was the final of a series of 3. May be easier to follow along if you read the first 3 but not necessary. A good romantic suspense book.

Lynn Blackburn has returned for the last hurrah for her Dive Team series, #3, One Final Breath. Gabe Chavez and Anissa Bell rise to the foreground on this novel, falling for each other while trying to escape painful pasts. The rest of the team is back, fleshing out the character list and bringing love, amusement, and memories from former books. Which leads me to relate that this novel is quite capable of being a standalone; it’s just sweeter when the reader can identify with the backstory presented. The friendship and camaraderie of the dive team and their significant others really impressed me. Between the locale, the season, and the warm atmosphere the friends create, life was almost idyllic...Until it wasn’t. Then life was frantic, uncertain, vomiting past terrifying experiences up in front of those who most needed to remain calm and collected.Paisley Wilson is an interesting character to watch. The reader won’t know what to make of Gabe’s arch-nemesis who is suddenly very much a part of this case.If the romance, intrigue, and suspense aren’t enough motivation, Mr. Cook returns and is a great reason to read this book. Everyone needs a Mr. Cook in their lives! He prays his way through adversity and sees much more than is actually visible.Get this book and dive deep into some great suspense.I received this book from the author through Revell and NetGalley. No positive review was required, and all opinions are solely my own.

Oh, Lynn H. Blackburn’s Dive Team Investigations series has been a pleasure to read, and One Final Breath just might be her best story yet.Past and present collide as a series of random circumstances circle around Anissa Bell with ominous intent. It is time to confront and put to rest the memories that have haunted her for thirteen years—and perhaps, finally admit the truth of her feelings to investigator Gabe Chavez, too.Anissa and Gabe have intrigued me from Beneath the Surface, and I am so happy to have gotten to know them better in One Final Breath. Gabe may be the clown of the dive-team group, and Anissa the stalwart, by-the-book leader, but they have plenty in common—which they find out when they are willing to risk vulnerability. I loved them, I loved their story, and I highly recommend all the Dive Team Investigations books now (be sure to read them in order so that the experience of One Final Breath is extra sweet). Now, I really hope, for the sake of these dive-team couples, that the danger in Carrington calms down...I received a complimentary copy of this book and the opportunity to provide an honest review. I was not required to write a positive review, and all the opinions I have expressed are my own.

'Gabe Chavez. He'd gotten under her skin for years, but lately he'd gotten inside her head.' (p. 16)At last! Anissa Bell now considers what her friends have already recognized...she and Gabe are meant for each other but before they can concentrate on their relationship they must try to find out who killed a teenage boy and attempt to solve a crime from Anissa's past. One Final Breath has heart-stopping action, exciting underwater adventure, and a sweet but intense romance between Anissa and Gabe. This is the final book of Lynn H. Blackburn's Dive Team Investigations series and she gives her fans the perfect conclusion. We see the two couples from the first two books enjoying their lives together and we're given the possibility of a future life for Anissa and Gabe. I enjoyed learning more about the work of this special group of investigators and the events and situations that they handle but I wasn't grossed out by the author's descriptions, even though they are often traumatic and very dangerous activities. I could feel Anissa and Gabe's confusion about their relationship and I truly enjoyed the friendship that these six team members share. Lynn H. Blackburn knows how to draw us into each story that she writes and One Final Breath is no different; it is worthy of being described as a "take your breath away" book! There is hope, faith, and friendship and I recommend it to all who enjoy Christian fiction and romantic suspense.I received a complimentary copy from the author but a positive review was never required. These are my honest thoughts.

This book is the third and final book in the Dive Team Investigations series. I was given the opportunity to read this book through Librarything.com. The book I received and read was an advanced reader's copy. I have not read any of the other books in the series and that was ok. It probably would have been a little better if I had read them, but it did not take away from this book at all.Ms. Blackburn did a wonderful job of bringing her characters to life. The story kept my interest throughout and it flowed well. The plot was interesting, part mystery and part romance. The ending was as expected but not disappointing, you didn't know exactly how it would play out and that was good.As stated, this was an advanced reader copy so I hope the editing was improved. It wasn't really bad throughout the book but most noticeable in the last 60 or so pages. An example is a word should have been "broke" but was written "broken" and it stuck out. Another one that annoyed me was in spoken conversation. I tried to overlook it as people do/would speak that way, but the grammar was totally wrong. I guess I'm the "grammar police" type person, but a poorly edited book will ruin the whole book for me. Also, I repeat, the editing was not awful, just needs more attention in the copy I read. All that said, if you like a good Christian book that is not preachy, you will enjoy this. The Christian part was written showing how Christians behave in certain situations and how prayer plays a huge role in a Christian's life. If you like romance, you will enjoy this and you will also enjoy it if you like crime-drama mysteries. I would recommend this book to my friends and I give it 4 out of 5 stars.

This series just keeps getting better with each installment. I love every one of the characters that keep showing up in this series. I really enjoy reading about this dive team and how they help to solve murders and other crimes. Gabe and Anissa start out as friends and then fall in love slowly. They are not sure that they deserve to be happy. It is fun to read how they work it all out. I love the intrigue throughout the series. I received a copy of this book from the author for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys romance, mysteries and Christian faith. There are a number of faith conversations and characters relying on their faith- through prayer and reflection. While a quick read, it was entertaining and kept my interest.I appreciated the references to diving investigations and how they approach the underwater searches. That was an area that I wasn't very familiar with prior to this book. I would read another book in this series for sure! I was given an ARC in return for an honest review.

Wow! What an amazing ending to a finominal series. I have loved every book in this series so far and I have looked forward to Gabe and Anissa's story for so long. I couldn't wait to dig in and I was not disappointed! I love that we got to see the characters I fell in love with in the previous books again. It felt like a beautiful reunion. This story gripped me from page one and kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. There were so many twists and turns that I never saw coming. I cannot recommend this book and series enough. They can be read as stand alone novels, but they are so amazing, you'll want to read them all. *Disclosure of Material Connection: I received a complimentary copy of the book mentioned above in the hope that I would review it on my blog. “For his part, Gabe was looking at her the way an astronaut looks at Earth. Like he could see his home but couldn’t quite reach it.”Another intense, thrilling romantic suspense from Lynn H Blackburn! And this third book in the Dive Team Investigations series was so worth the wait to finally get the scoop on Anissa and Gabe. Though it can be read as a stand-alone, reading the books in order will make the most sense since the six main characters of the series are closely tied together and each story blends into the next. The author really knows how to weave a great plot with twists and turns, interjecting the villain’s thoughts and actions every so often as the story unfolds. The action is fast-paced and the suspense is top notch, as is her writing. The characters are layered, complex, and captivating. We’ve met Anissa and Gabe previously through the first two books but their past and what propelled them to become who they are get illuminated in this book. Anissa, the daughter of a missionary who is tough and efficient, regrets mistakes of her past and is still trying to find resolution to the kidnapping of a toddler that happened when she was a college student. Gabe, a man with a broken home and past, is usually a light-hearted jokester but strives to help those who are suffering as he had in his youth. When supposedly unrelated homicides converge, Anissa and Gabe are left to work together professionally but also to work through their long-held attraction. Their banter and slow-building romance are quite delightful as are the supporting characters who provide godly wisdom. If you enjoy romantic suspense, this book (and the entire series) is a must-read!I received a copy of the book from Revell and was under no obligation to post a positive review. All comments and opinions are solely my own.

One Final Breath is the perfect finish for the Dive Team Investigations series! Once you start reading, you will stay up past your bedtime. Lynn Blackburn hits every button perfectly, from the diving to the suspense to the romance and friendship. I want to join the team and be a part of their circle of friends! Characters are revisited from the series, but reading the previous books isn't necessary to enjoy this one. I truly appreciate when an author includes the previous characters. When you can see the development of characters and relationships all the way until the final chapter of the last book, it gives you the entire picture and a satisfying conclusion. Gabe and Anissa's story is not just a development between the two of them but also an awakening within themselves. They have a "professional" history with an intriguing twist and they both view it from a different perspective. This is a truly a fantastic read and I highly recommend this book and the others in the series. If you are a fan of Lynnette Eason, Colleen Coble or Cara Putman, then you have found your next read. Although I read this series on my kindle, I have all of the books in my personal library. The covers are stunning!

One Final Breath is the third installment in Lynn H. Blackburn’s Dive Team Investigations series. One Final Breath functions as a stand-alone novel as sufficient backstory is given. However, I think I would have been more connected to Anissa and Gabe if I had read the other books. As it was, neither the mystery nor romance captured my attention until the middle of the story. One Final Breath’s strength lies in its well-crafted crime/mystery component. The criminal wasn’t easily predictable and I didn’t know the who or why until the story revealed the character and motive. Even once the bad guy was revealed, the suspense built and it was a unique climax. At that point, I was definitely not wanting to put the book down. Getting a peek into the criminal’s mind was a bit creepy.I recommend One Final Breath by Lynn H. Blackburn to readers of romantic suspense who have followed this series from the beginning and are already interested with these characters. Three stars.Disclosure of Material Connection: I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher. All opinions in this review are my own.

One Final Breath by Lynn H. Blackburn is the third book in her Dive Team Investigations series. Dive Team Captain Anissa Bell and Investigator Gabe Chavez are working together to solve a murder when Anissa’s past catches up with them. As Anissa And Gabe’s feelings for each other deepen, Anissa works to make amends for her past. This is a story of learning to forgive. Not just others but yourself as well. Our past helps shape who we are but we must learn to not let it rule us. This was an explosive story. I was hooked from page one all the way to the end. The characters were warm and supportive but most of all they were “real” people with flaws just as all of us are. We all must learn that God can use us anywhere we are placed. A great suspense story!I received this book from LibraryThing in exchange for my honest review.

This is the third book in this series that I have read and it sure didn’t disappoint! The characters that I have learned to care about are back, and have moved further in their lives, and contribute to this story. This is Gabe’s and Annisa’s story, and with this book, what appeared as animosity, well, it looks like they care a bit more about each other than they want to admit, but they both carry scars and baggage! As with the other books in the Dive Team Investigations, you will be gripping your seat or holding your breath, you won’t see a lot that happens coming, and that is a good thing!Another great book by this author, and yes, it can be read alone, but you won’t want to miss the others.I received this book through LibraryThing and the Publisher Revell, and was not required to give a positive review.

I have enjoyed the other two books in the Dive Team Investigations series by Lynn Blackburn. Book 3, One Final Breath was also exciting and I couldn't wait to get to the end! From the first page, One Final Breath has non stop energy, intrigue, and danger. In this story, Gabe Chavez and Anissa Bell get their romantic chapter told right in the middle of someone trying to kill Anissa. At the same time a teenage boy is killed, Anissa finds an unsolved case involving a toddler from the past that comes back to haunt her.If you enjoy stories that are light on romance and Christianity, and heavy on suspense and action, then One Final Breath is for you!

The author, Lynn Blackburn, doesn't fail in spinning an engaging tale riddled with a cast of characters expertly drawn to bring them to living reality as they go swimmingly through this enthralling tale. The main female protagonist is Anissa is an exceptionally talented woman who is expert in her skills as an officer of the law and also as a diver. She dives to recover victims of accidents and evil deeds. She is a caring individual that brings feeling and sympathetic relationship to those she encounters whether a team mate or a victim. She has the drive and astute insight needed to route out the perpetrator. The story moves at a good, steady pace throughout, but the final third of the book picks up speed until it literally leaps from the pages toward the end. Fascinating. Compelling. Finely detailed in aspect throughout. An engaging and compelling read.I recommend.I won this book on a contest at LibraryThing.com

First, let me say I enjoyed this book. Second, let me say, "I'm confused." One of the minor characters in the story is Brady St. John, who is a character in many of Lynette Eason's books. So my first thought was that Lynette Eason and Lynn Blackburn were the same person writing under two different names. But I don't think this is so since Lynn Blackburn does reviews for Lynette Eason's books. So I have to presume that she has permission to use this cross-reference in this story that focuses on Gabe Chavez and Anissa Bell. I haven't looked back at the Eason books I've read to see if Gabe Chavez was one of the characters but he likely was. Someone please clear this up for me. That said, this novel draws you in as it progressively reveals the underlying themes that cause the characters various levels of discontent. I initially felt like I was missing some of the background I needed to understand where it was going, but I think the author's writing style allows you to become more and more engaged as she moves through the telling of the tale. Still, I would like someone to enlighten me as to the cross-pollination with Eason's books.

I received an ARC of this book through LibraryThing's Early Reviewer Program in exchange for an honest review.I've read the previous two books in this series and enjoyed them, so I expected to enjoy this one also. The story gripped me from the very beginning. There are several cases going on, and it's hard to tell if they'll interconnect. I gave it 5 stars because of how gripping I found the story, because of the issues the characters have to come to grips with and how they do so--the changes I see in the characters, and because I would read it again. The story centers around Gabe Chavez (formerly undercover and now detective and member of the dive team) and Anissa Bell (detective and head of the dive team). Both are convinced that things from their past make romantic relationships impossible. I can't quite remember what Gabe's issues are but Anissa feels she let down her friend, Carly (who was murdered as a teen when she took over a babysitting job Anissa was supposed to do); let down God by not going back to Yap as a missionary--and she's also bothered that Carly's murder hasn't been solved nor has the kidnapped girl that Anissa was supposed to have been babysitting been found either dead or alive. Since they're undeniably attracted to each other, they need to work through these issues so that they can move forward.WARNING: POTENTIAL SPOILERS AHEAD (READ AT YOUR OWN DISCRETION)Plot Points:Someone's out to harm or kill AnissaPeople are getting sick from Cryptosporidium in the waterSomeone fatally shoots Jeremy while he and Brooke are swimming in the lake (Gabe's case)Anissa sees a teen that she believes is Jillian (the girl kidnapped when Carly was killed)The body of an ex-con is unexpectedly found in the lakeI guessed the outcome of the Velma Brown/Mr. & Mrs. Davison meeting long before the author revealed it. I liked Mr. Cook's advice to Anissa. (I got a bit confused toward the end, so I really hope Mr. Cook was who I thought he was and was not Dixon's alias. I suspect they are two different people because it would seem Mr. Cook would have had ample opportunities to accomplish what Dixon wanted to.)I did not guess who was behind the attacks on Anissa--well, in a way, I did guess who it was, but I didn't know the name of the character or the full motive behind it.

Ms. Blackburn closes out her “Dive Team Investigations” trilogy with a bang. After getting glimpses of the love/hate relationship of Gabe and Anissa in the prior two entries, “Beneath the Surface” and “In Too Deep”, we learn what their respective stories are and gradually see them come together while juggling investigations of three seemingly unrelated crimes: a kidnapping/murder from the past, the shooting of a teenager swimming at the lake, and a murderous stalker pursuing Anissa. The suspense is relentless, and the relationship is surprisingly tender given that both lead characters have hard charging personalities. It’s an excellent book, and I will miss the Dive Team. I look forward to Ms. Blackburn’s next adventures.I was given an advance copy of this book by the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
