Most these books are all a like, the main character starts out with a rough of it, discovers she has powers, meets a guy, overcomes a few obstacles. while making dumb decisions, becoming super powerful and doing something amazing.

I liked how the main character in this one seemed mostly honest, smart, didn't try to hide and handle everything on her own. The author created a good mystery that hinted but never completely revealed it's self until the end. Overall I really liked the story. I enjoyed the different characters and the author's creativity. I just felt like a lot of little things in the story were never addressed or at least not in a way that fully satisfied me.

I would like to read more from this author and will be looking for new books.

I wanted to point out that a huge part of YA fantasy series that I love, is when the main character discovers that not only is magic real, they possess magic themselves. This book effectively starts by skipping over this period in the main character's life, like watching a movie trailer, showing the best parts of the book and this was a Massive letdown for me as it took away my fav parts of the book. It does this at the start of each of the books in the series goes highlighting the best bits and its a real bummer aspect for me.

Getting past this, the rest of the book I did enjoy however, I wasn't overly keen on the love interest and she makes such a stupid choice at one point, for example, if you saw someone you cared for go into a forest and you followed their trail 5 or 10mins later, knowing there were very dangerous, life-threatening creatures in said forest, surely you wouldn't be so stupid so as to call out the person's name, bringing attention to yourself.

Anyhow, for the most part, i like the main female character, i just wish she was into girls not guys as her female friends were great. The story is very different, many creatures and characters that's not typical for this genre along with an interesting storyline which made for quite an interesting tale. The narrator is good too. I'm about to start the next in the series.

Very nice YA. It's fast paced with interesting characters and a well written storyline. Sorta of Harry Potter-ish, but it for the over 16. Hope the rest of the series is just as interesting.

It's a good story and I do want to know what happens next but there were times I just wanted to strangle the lead character she kept doing teenage girl things and yes I am aware she is teenage girl in this drama but oh my God they're just so many things that I would never have done as a teenager trust me I never did as a teenager I just could not believe half the crap she did
