About this audiobook

Affluence, autonomy, safety, and power. These are the central values of the American dream. But are they actually compatible with Jesus's command to love our neighbor as ourselves?

In essays grouped around these four values, D. L. Mayfield asks us to pay attention to the ways they shape our own choices, and the ways those choices affect our neighbors. Where did these values come from? How have they failed those on the edges of our society? And how can we disentangle ourselves from our culture's headlong pursuit of these values and live faithful lives of service to God and our neighbors?

This book really broke me down and have opened my eyes to the injustices perpetrated by our daily existence while thinking we are sincere. As an Africa immigrant of Nigerian descent lining in New York at the time of reading, I am not focusing evil done to me or my predecessors by the white supremacies because Ibhave outgrown that mentally. By t, those we perpetuate as Christians will hour knowing it. May we be the rule broken to the dictates of Christ.

The book is so emotional and followed till the end. Message clearly put and corrections well received. Thanks for your extensive research work on these immigrants and your heart of gold. I look forward to more from you.

I am grateful for the ways this book challenged me to look at how I have embraced the myth of the American dream in my own heart and to re-examine those beliefs in light of the very best dream there is, the abundant life promised by Jesus Christ. I will be reflecting on the ideas in this book for quite some time!
