About this audiobook
Sophie Lawson should be enjoying her sister’s wedding day. But nothing could have prepared her to see the best man again.
After her mother became bedridden and her father bailed on the family, Sophie found herself serving as a second mother to her twin brother, Seth, and younger sister, Jenna. Sophie supported her siblings through their college years, putting aside her own dream of opening a bookshop in Piper’s Cove—the quaint North Carolina beach town they frequented as children.
Now it’s finally time for Sophie to follow her own pursuits. Seth has a new job, and Jenna is set to marry her college beau in Piper’s Cove. But the destination wedding reunites Sophie with best man Aiden Maddox, her high school sweetheart who left her without a backward glance.
When an advancing hurricane strands Aiden in Piper’s Cove after the wedding, he finds the hotels booked to capacity and has to ask Sophie to put him up until the storm passes. As the two ride out the weather, old feelings rise to the surface. The delay also leaves Sophie with mere days to get her bookshop up and running. Can she trust Aiden to stick around? And will he find the courage to risk his heart?

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Easy to listen to kept you coming back for more
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5It’s a very sweet and romantic story. Definitely, worth reading. The only issue that I’m not sure it was solved, it’s the situation of the main female character and her dad, and how her brother make up with her dad. Especially when her dad wasn’t doing anything extra to change his ways. Leaving that aside, it’s a nice and refreshing romance story that I’ll recommend.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Really Great book. This author has a way with characters.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5What could be better than a bookshop by the sea? This book was a romance that takes place by the beach and could be classified as christian or inspirational fiction as well. Sophie Lawson is forced to spend time with her high school sweetheart who broke her heart and left her behind years ago. Aiden Maddox discovers he may still have feelings for Sophie. So will they or won't they find a way to forgive each other and be together again? I found this book a little cheesy at times, but I recommended it if you are looking for a sweet and light beachy romance.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Sophie’s family has survived some hard times. Their mom dies after a debilitating illness and their dad has abandoned the family. Sophie’s boyfriend has left town for a new job, leaving their relationship in shreds. Sophie has taken over the position of mothering her two siblings, and without really realizing it, she has allowed them to take advantage of her goodness. Now, seven years later, she is about to open a bookshop, her younger sister is getting married, and Aiden is coming to the wedding. These are flawed characters who eventually show growth in understanding how the things that occurred in their past affected their behavior in the future. The characters are likable and believable, and the storyline is well thought-out. There are some exciting moments in the story as a hurricane bears down on the town. I really appreciated the manner in which the author integrated church and religious beliefs into the story. The characters’ beliefs and church attendance are a part of their lives and a part of the story, but the main thrust of the tale is still the relationships between the characters. It’s a well written and thoughtful story.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5In Bookshop by the Sea, Sophie Lawson knew that her ex, Aiden Maddox, would be at her sister Jenna’s wedding. She just didn’t anticipate the effect he would still have on her. And when Aiden crashes at a friend’s beach house to ride out a hurricane only to find that Sophie is currently residing there, the two are forced to face their past, but they might wind up also finding a future together. But Sophie’s need to fix everything for her sister and brother and Aiden’s tendency to jump ship at the first sign of trouble could derail their relationship for a second time.I enjoyed reading Bookshop by the Sea. Sophie and Aiden are likable, easy to relate to, and they have good chemistry. Both Sophie and Aiden have issues that I think a lot of people can relate to. Sophie is codependent with her siblings and feels the need to fix everything for them. She lacks boundaries with her family members. She also has abandonment issues, as does Aiden. So I appreciate that issues such as these are addressed. I like that Sophie and Aiden, despite having their issues, are excellent at seeing the best in each other and at encouraging one another. And I appreciate that the author writes clean, faith-based romance. *I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Bookshop by the Sea by Denise Hunter is a sweet Christian romance. It contains Denise Hunter’s conversational writing style which draws the reader into the book. The book has realistic characters. I like that the characters were not perfect. It gave them a chance to learn from their mistakes and grow. I just love Pippa, Sophie’s dog. She was such a sweetie. I enjoyed the descriptions of the Piper’s Cove. It sounded like a quaint town where I want to live. The residents are just great. This is a special community where people help each other in time of need. They are a welcoming bunch. Sophie had a vision for the bookshop that was special. I could relate to her love of books. My favorite phrase from Bookshop by the Sea came from Sophie when she said, “I love how books can transport you to another place.” For those who love Christian romances, you will thoroughly enjoy this charming tale. While it is a lovely story, it is predictable and there are repetitive details. I like how the Christian elements were woven into the book. There are good life lessons learned by our characters. We see that we are never too old to learn from our mistakes and change our ways. I appreciated the epilogue that nicely wrapped up the book. Bookshop By the Sea is a story about healing, forgiveness, realizing dreams, and second chances.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Bookshop By the Sea is a sweet second-chance romance that will make for a perfect summertime read. I mean a romance novel about opening a bookshop at the beach, what more could a booklover want? Sophie and Aiden are reunited at her sisters wedding after not having seen each other since they broke up several years earlier. After the wedding, getting stranded by a hurricane forces them together. Let's just say it literally takes a storm to force them to start dealing with the storms in their own lives. Although there are plenty of fun and sweet moments in the story, readers also go alongside Sophie and Aiden as they face abandonment issues, miscommunications and misunderstandings, and learning how to face their problems instead of running from them.Since I call North Carolina home, I was excited for Denise Hunter to set another book here in this fabulous state. Also, I might have gotten a bit excited for a cameo appearance of some characters from her Bluebell Inn series. If you haven't read the Bluebell series, it won't ruin anything. But if you have, you just might be as giddy as I was.Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of this novel. All opinions expressed are entirely my own.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/53/5 stars! When the heroine met the hero again, it was during the wedding rehearsal dinner for her sister's nuptials. Their high-school romance ended when the hero left for a business opportunity while the heroine stayed to care for her bedridden mother's health. The heroine has plans to open a bookstore and the hero was going to go back to his life. However, the approaching hurricane forced the two to seek shelter together and they become closer in the book, even as they family, job, and other personal issues. This is a nice sweet romance that only has kissing scenes in the book. This dealt with healing, forgiveness, community, and second chances. I liked the heroine's character, though her family were annoying for the first half but got better for the rest of the story. I also felt like the hero should grovel a bit more but that's my personal preference. Overall it was a nice Denise Hunter book and I look forward to reading more of the author's works.**I received s complimentary copy of this book.
