About this audiobook

“A tense, simmering, fast-paced mystery, Kate White’s latest captivating thriller explores the secrets that lurk just under the surface of a picture-perfect façade. I raced through this story about a close-knit family’s annual gathering at an idyllic estate that quickly turns deadly. The Fiancée kept me guessing until the very end, never sure who to trust—or where the danger was hiding.”—Megan Miranda, New York Times bestselling author of The Last House Guest and The Girl from Widow Hills

The New York Times bestselling author returns with an unsettling but riveting psychological thriller about a captivating woman who joins a family and threatens to upend their picture-perfect lives.

They had everything they needed for a perfect family vacation: close-knit relatives, a bucolic setting . . . and a murderer in their midst?

Summer’s looking forward to a break from hustling for acting work in Manhattan when she, her husband Gabe, and Gabe’s nine-year-old son arrive at the annual family get-together at her in-laws’ sprawling estate. On the agenda are leisurely gourmet meals, tennis matches, and plenty of relaxation by the pool.

But this year, Gabe’s brother Nick has invited his new flame Hannah, whom Summer immediately recognizes from a few years before. Oddly, her brother-in-law’s girlfriend claims not to know her. Yet she charms the other family members, and after Nick announces that he’s proposed to Hannah, Summer doesn’t have much choice but to grin and bear it.

Then the reunion is rocked by tragedy when a family member is found dead. Though the doctors attribute the loss to natural causes, a grieving Summer fears that the too-good-to-be-true Hannah is involved, even as Gabe dismisses her suspicions.

How far will Summer go to expose the truth? As she investigates just what Nick’s fiancée might have done to keep her perfect image intact, she begins to fear that the first death might only be the beginning . . .

Wealthy parents have their four sons, three wives and one fiancé at their massive compound for a week vacation. Drama and jealousy ensues, followed by two murders in what cultivated in the ultimate game of “Clue.” I didn’t hate it, didn’t love it but worth a listen.

Felt like the story was longer than needed to be, like drawn out. Also to much in her head. Great concept twist though.

The book was not great and the narrator did not help

I knew there had to be a twist at the end and it was ok, not the character I would have suspected . The problem with this book was Summer was a bit whiny and obsessed and after awhile it was a bit of an overdriven plot device. I was also annoyed with her husband Gabe who like most men was clueless about his wife’s instant dislike of Hannah. I get that part, it’s called woman’s intuition and men don’t understand it. I am not so sure I would have been able to so easily forgive his cluelessness. I saw some people complain about the narrator, I actually thought the way she narrated this story is how I would imagine these people sounding. She used a slightly snobbishness tone and that is exactly how I envision this not entirely pleasant, wealthy and entitled family.

Really slow and too much dialogue, not enough action. I know the setting where the book takes place and it seemed like an interesting concept for a plot at first, but it took me way too long to finish this book. Lots of conversations and thinking, and I wish there were more action parts. I only finished it because at that point, I wanted to find out who really committed the murders.

I expected a more profound twist at the end but it was entertaining.

The main character / narrator was annoying. Too whiny and meddling for me to like the character. Too much internal musings that did nothing for the story but drag it on. The ending was a bit disappointing as it revealed the murderer in a rather cliche way and then wrapped up the remaining story by way of summation from the main character. Anti-climactic to say the least.
