About this audiobook

“Scott, I need your help.”

Five words from a woman he hasn’t seen in five years, and Scott Moore’s world is thrown off its axis. Ex-girlfriend Meredith has resurfaced with a past full of horrific abuse at the hands of a man who called himself a Dom, and she has the scars to prove it. Now she needs Scott’s help to reclaim her sexuality and put the past behind her.

Scott is more than willing to help, but he has no idea the toll it will take on him, not to mention his other polyamourous relationships. What’s more, while Scott and Meredith face down her demons, their own past won’t be forgotten. Neither will Scott’s feelings for Meredith…

Author's Note: This book contains references to sexual, physical, and psychological abuse that some may find disturbing.

Editor's Note

Darkly Romantic...

An intensely dark and ultimately romantic book, where the hero and heroine were in a consensual BDSM relationship years earlier. Now she’s returned to ask for his help after suffering abuse from her most recent Dom. Gallagher’s writing is clean and poignant, and the book is an emotional ride.

Author

Lauren Gallagher

Lauren Gallagher is an abnormal romance writer currently living in the wilds of Omaha, Nebraska. She and her husband, along with a coyote-iguana hybrid and two and a half cats, are thought to be in hiding from the Polynesian Mafia and a debt collector in search of a fine for an overdue book from the Library of Alexandria. Lauren continues to skillfully, if somewhat clumsily, elude them, but continues to have run-ins with her arch nemesis, M/M erotic romance author L. A. Witt. The implementation of Operation: I Don't Think So is expected to resolve that problem soon enough.

Reconstructing Meredith by Lauren Gallagher, an audiobook narrated by D.C. Cole was a dark, intense romance. Technically it is not my type of book but I like to challenge myself. I found that reading/listening to books that are not psychological thrillers lets me look at things from a different perspective. Even though this looks like a book about sex and dominance the main storyline is about something else.
    It's about surviving abuse.
It's about rebuilding yourself from scratch.
    It's about the trust.
    It's about acceptance.
    It's about healing!
Meredith and Scott used to be partners until Meredith decided to move out. Years later Scott receives a call from Meredith, she is asking for help. Scott is ready to do anything for her but not in his darkest nightmares he can face things that Meredith went through over the years. Can Scott fix things that Meredith's husband tiered in pieces? Can Meredith trust another human being? What is the price for reclaiming your own life back?

I truly don't remember why this book landed on my TBR list, I believe there was a reason, and good for that as I actually enjoyed this book. This is one of the uncomfortable ones, one of the people doesn't talk too loud. At the same time I am always interested to understand things that I don't understand and the only way is to look at the situation from the inside!

Would’ve been 5 stars but the H and h’s voice were identical… low male voice.. no attempt to give the h a somewhat feminine-sounding voice.

Loved the different perspectives of healing shown in this book. There are certainly things that can be triggering but I think they were handled well as they were presented.

I'm so glad the author wasn't scared to show the real, raw truth in the characters

Wow, sounds a lot like my past relationship. Thanks for the author’s time in sharing how powerful and healing working through abusive relationships. No matter vanilla or otherwise. It’s hard to trust and believe again. I swear it’s one of the hardest thing I have ever done. It’s a hard read at points but worth it.

It's sadly so accurate. I've never so much wanted to be violent with a fictional character. I suppose it is because I know they exist in the real world.

Excellent book! I loved the characters and enjoyed their journey to overcome past trauma. The trigger warnings in the description are no joke. Parts were really tough to handle, so proceed with caution if you are a survivor.
