About this ebook

The personal and professional story of a former FBI agent, this is the journey Don Adams has taken over the past 50 years that has connected him to the assassination of the 35th president of the United States. On November 13, 1963, Adams was given a priority assignment to investigate Joseph Milteer, a man who had made threats to assassinate the president. Two weeks later John F. Kennedy was dead, and Agent Adams was instructed to locate and question Milteer. Adams, however, was only allowed to ask the suspect five specific questions before being told to release him. He was puzzled by the bizarre orders but thought nothing more of it until years later when he read a report that stated that not only had Joseph Milteer made threats against the president, but also that he claimed Kennedy would be killed from an office building with a high-powered rifle. Since that time, Adams has compiled evidence and research from every avenue available to him, including his experiences in Georgia and Dallas FBI offices, to produce this compelling investigation that may just raise more questions than answers.

    Publisher’s Foreword

Forgive your enemies, but never forget their names.

    – John F. Kennedy

Growing up in the 1960s meant many things: the most profound, the most traumatic, the most shocking, the most interesting, the most melancholy, the ugliest … was the brutal killing of our leaders. First, there was our president, a virile scion ensconced in Camelot, then five years later, America’s most successful practitioner of Gandhi’s non-violent political change stratagem and then to cap off the trifecta spree – the slain president’s younger brother.

I had recently turned fourteen when JFK was killed and long on eighteen when his brother Bobby was shot – talk about some bloody bookends for the adolescent years. The assassinations altered my life. When they happened, I felt shock, anger, sadness, and bewilderment, but as the saying says, Life goes on.

Later, I knew something was deeply wrong, especially starting in late 1969, after my ex-spook father told me some things I didn’t quite comprehend.

I knew there was something happening, way beyond the simple breaking of commandments, but what exactly was amiss I didn’t have a clue. Years of study, book learning and discussions have brought about a keener appreciation of our predicament, and I am always delighted to find a story with honor that furthers our knowledge of any of these grave red-raw crucibles of our times.

Don Adams is a remarkable man, and his personal story of integrity shows without any doubt: conspiracy, collusion and confusion surround the very public murder of the 35th President of the United States.

From an Office Building with a High-Powered Rifle: A Report to the Public from an FBI Agent Involved in the Official JFK Assassination Investigation is Don Adam’s exclusive chronicle of his front-seat view of the probe, with a unique look at one of the most intriguing pieces of the JFK assassination collage: Joseph Adams Milteer.

Milteer and his words have piqued the interests of conspiracy researchers, ever since the first inklings came out in Miami in early 1967 about a ‘tape’ which was made two or three weeks prior to the assassination of President Kennedy predicting the President’s assassination.

Well, Milteer did predict the murder – under any definition of the term. But as Adams declares, He was hardly a prophet, but just how involved he really was, we may never know.

There is much to learn from Adams’ story: connivance, deceit, and distortion by federal officials both before and after the assassination to deflect inquiry from its natural course and affect its outcome. And there is something there … there.

Somehow, some way, Milteer, I believe, knew: through the shadowy threads that bind the abyss of military, government and social/economic espionage. A menagerie of competing interests that many times employ the same double/triple/quadruple agents: Creations, who have no idea whose water they are carrying and what the whole shebang is really about.

No way to run a railroad … or a country. From an Office Building with a High-Powered Rifle gives us a powerful opportunity to understand part of our shaded past, helping us stand up to the rigors of the present, and meet the demanding challenges of the future.

We should – for our children’s sake, for the world’s sake, for … our sake – take our country back. Back from the darkness of despair, striving forward to the boon of responsible governance, honest relationships and a real tomorrow.

Onwards to the utmost of Futures!

    Peace,

    Kris Millegan

The author wrote this book with three main goals. First, that the writings must be as truthful as possible. Second, to mesh the writings with information that was obtained from caring contributors, archives, magazines, newspapers, books and other sources. The author is pleased to say he believes that this has been accomplished.

A third requirement was to have a good publisher to produce the book. After reading many of the chapters in preparation of the published book, the author says, I must say that I am overly pleased with what I have read. It’s excellent.

Kris Millegan Publisher, and Kelly Ray, Editor of Trine-Day have done a most professional job in filling those three goals and I believe that the purchasers of the book will agree with the author. The author could not have chosen better persons to hold their titles. They are truly the best Publisher and Editor. I have spent most of my time working with Kris and we have become a good solid team and good friends. We are all fortunate to have this team working together.

    Dedication and Appreciation

I am only as important as one grain of sand in all the beaches of the world.

    – Donald A. Adams

I dedicate this book to God, who made us what we are and gave us the talents to be what He wanted us to be. I am what God made me. Without His gifts of heavenly wisdom, common sense and faith, all of my accomplishments would not have been possible. I know that He is with me each moment of the day and night. Because of this, I do not fear.

I thank the Good Lord with all my being for his being so generous to me and for letting me love law enforcement as I do. He has charted the road I travel, leading from the past to the present and the writing of my story.

None of this would have been possible without the total support of my wife Jeanette. Without her willingness to stay by my side when I changed careers and became an agent with the FBI and without her numerous sacrifices throughout all of these 57 years, I couldn’t have fulfilled my dream. She went through very trying times – packing, moving eight times in ten years, and caring for the children in my absence. Included in that mix were the four serious illnesses of three of our children and me, some with lifetime effects. I know it’s not been easy, and I love and appreciate her with all of my heart for being the wife of my life.

My recognition and appreciation must also go to my four children Jeff, and his wife Laura; Dawn; Mark, and his wife Terrie; and Doug and his wife Michele. Doug and Michele were the first in the family to encourage me to tell the story that needed to be told. They had a professional company videotape my Kennedy Assassination presentation. They also named their daughter Kennedy because they love the name, but also because of my deep involvement with the Kennedy assassination. No one could have done something more meaningful than that for me. I have never had anyone love me like Kennedy and her sister, Kolby, do. I’m a very lucky guy.

My grandson, Jason, and his fiancée Amanda spent considerable time with me to help purchase my laptop on which these writings have been done. Jason also put in long hours teaching me how to use the computer, and his mom, Gwen, was always there for me, as well. My family’s support was the foundation for my being able to write my story.

Jeanette and I now have 11 grandchildren and a foster grandchild, and they were all very supportive of me and my work. I thank Jason, Michael, Jonathan, twins Matthew and Melissa, Benny, twins Vincent and Vallerie, Carmine, Kennedy, Kolby and Jillian.

Jason and Amanda Adams recently announced the birth of great grand-daughter Siena Marie Adams.

I truly love my family very deeply.

I want to acknowledge a number of other persons who were in some way involved in support and encouragement to get me started and then to continue until the book was completed. With apologies for forgetting anyone, I’ll start with Tim Hanna and Abe Zaiden, both of whom who were the very first to say Don, write your book.

When I worked as Chief of Police in Fairlawn, a young lady came to my office after reading a newspaper article about me. Deanie Richards spent every free minute working on the Kennedy assassination, and she has been instrumental in providing me with copies of numerous documents. I owe her more than I can say because the material she gave me helped to tell my story.

I need to thank special friends, Dr. Jeff Caufield and Andy Kiel. The three of us have spent a lot of hours together. Jeff is in the process of writing his own book on the JFK assassination. Andy teaches history at Wooster High School in Wooster, Ohio and has invited me to talk with a number of his graduating classes. He is also the author of the book, J. Edgar Hoover, The Father of the Cold War. Both Jeff and Andy have given solid information to assist me in areas that I knew nothing about and for which I am most grateful.

Tim Hanna and I have been close friends for more than 25 years, and we talked a lot about my involvement with Joseph Adams Milteer. It was Tim who suggested and then went with me to the National Archives in Washington D.C. and College Park, Maryland, to obtain documents for review. That was the best action we could have taken. I owe Tim much appreciation, and this book is a part of him.

Martha Murphy of the National Archives made our time there very productive. She pulled four carts of document folders in which we found a number of vital documents to better illustrate and confirm my suspicions.

In talking about contacts, there are friends that have, in one way or another, been inspirational and supportive to me because of the people they are. Among those friends, I must mention George Fellows, Earl Sumner, Bob McGuiness, Jim Rogers, Art Ryall, Pete Norregard, Tony DeLuca, Jim McCready and Cypress Co. friends. I can’t forget all of the law enforcement officers whose lives have touched and influenced mine. Also, I thank Hank Polombo, Jim Huntsman, Jim Honsberger, Dale and Mary Jean Leonhardt. Ben Harrison, Larry Dannemiller, Tom Dannemiller Jr., Wendy Sawyer, Jim Albanese and Donna Kline. Thanks to Ted and Pat Varga for their help with the DVDs. Also a special thanks to friend Paul Waickman who provided me with numerous books about President Kennedy and the FBI. Ann Brennan for the very nice office that I have in my home. Bill Aylward is a very special of many years.

I cannot forget to thank Father William Karg, Fr. John Valencheck, Fr. Matthew Pfeiffer, and Deacon Terry Peacock. Their guidance and inspiration helped me through the rough times.

Finally, I thank very special friend, Jody Miller. The second time was the charm when I asked her to edit my book. I had been writing it since 1997, and it was more than 12 years later that her agreement to help me took a huge load off of my mind. She and I became an excellent working team, and she was able to take all of my voluminous written material and squeeze it down like a tube of tooth paste at its end. Thank you, Jody.
