Author

Samantha James

It was Samantha James's love of reading as a child that steered her toward a writing career. Among her favorites in those days were the Trixie Belden and Cherry Ames series of books. She still loves a blend of mystery and romance, and, of course, a happily-ever-after ending. The award-winning, New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of many romances and one novella, her books have ranged from medieval to Regency.

3.5/5. A tad melodramatic but still enjoyable and with likeable characters.

The storyline had so much promise but it just didn't deliver for me. I found the characters exasperating.

Yes, I read this too fast. In fact, I've memorized the book so many times that it got stuck in my head. Samantha James was one of my favourite historical romance author when I was around 15 years old. I have all her books in a row and memorize each one of them. Funny huh? I think the story is very sweet and lovely.

Its about a half-gypsy half-english Earl who went back to his father's house after his father's death. He nearly hit Olivia (yay) with his carriage and he got curious with her. Some back story, antagonists and antiracial/romance subplot later, its quite a decent story.

Samantha James is one of my favorite historical romance authors. She develops great characters and is truly gifted in telling a good romance story. One of her best is "One Moonlit Night". I just loved this book. Loved the characters, the plot, the setting and of course the romance. The story is about Dominic St. Bride, the bastard gypsy heir and the vicar's daughter Olivia Sherwood who because of hard times becomes the Earl's servant at Ravenwood Hall. The attraction is there from the beginning and so are all the obstacles between them. First, he's a Earl and she's a servant. Secondly, he's a gypsy (shunned by many) and her father was murdered just the year before by a gypsy and she's more than a bit nervous around gypsies. And lastly, she is caring for her blind sister who was struck blind by a blow to the head because of the murdering gypsy. The sexual and sensual tension between Dominic and Olivia is tangible from the get go and the Duke finds himself jealous of the young man who wants to marry Olivia and determined to make Olivia his for good. Good historical romance with engaging characters.
