CHAPTER I
CHALLENGES
I always enjoy serving The Lord; this unique work has eternal consequences.
Put your life in God’s service, and you will be surprised, to find that your life is filled with sublime happiness and success.
Actually, life is continually a challenge that demands action , defiance, and confrontation.
The space shuttle Challenger
was supposed to be sent into space on January 28, 1986 from Cape Canaveral
in Florida, USA. But, due to mechanical failure 73 seconds after liftoff was destroyed, and all the astronauts aboard were killed.
Indeed, this was an appalling experience!
However, this tragedy didn’t stop the human aspect of space flight.
Participating in mission trip in many ways is challenging too.
In Summary:
The window of opportunity opens and closes quickly; therefore, take the initiative early and decisively.
Trip to BANGLADESH
Here is a factor that encouraged us to participate in mission trips.
Lily and Jose received an invitation from a friend to go to Bangladesh. Our daughter asked us, "Wouldn’t you like to come with us? Recovering from the surprise I accepted the challenge.
Arrangement were made for the trip, and we flew from LAX, California to Dhaka International Airport.
Bangladesh is one of the most populous countries in the world with around 160 million people living in a geographically small country of 56,977 square miles. Bangladesh is a developing nation still facing poverty and illiteracy.
The name Bangladesh means Country of Bengal
in the official Bengali language.
It has the largest mangrove forest in the world and is the home of diverse flora and fauna, including the Royal Bengal Tiger.
At Dhaka’s airport, our friend Gerard, a missionary-dentist was waiting for us!
The capital city, Dhaka, is overpopulated with over 15 million people. Graciously Gerard toured us for the overcrowded city, throughout swarmed streets and markets.
For our enjoyment the tour included country side, where elegant women, were beautifully dressed in silk, as going to a feast, when they were going to work in the fields.
But wherever we went, our hearts pounded when our eyes discovered the painful reality of needy people.
This was a unique experience, that inspired us to help disadvantaged people, those living in another environment, and another culture.
After one week, we continued trip to Calcutta, India, where people remember Mother Theresa, great benefactor of Indian people. She consumed her life to help deprived human beings.
When your life is consumed serving needy people, you leave footprints that will continue beyond your death.
From Calcutta, we traveled to the city of Darjeeling, at the border of China and Bhutan, arriving there by night. We found one hotel, comfortable enough for our exhausted bodies.
The next morning, we were astonished by a huge surprise. It was so big that our eyes couldn’t believe it! In front of us were the gigantic Himalayan Mountains!
What an impressive view! How majestic!
How splendid and gigantic! Clothed with white garments as inviting us to a gala feast!
With joyful and thankful hearts we returned to Dhaka visiting hospitals, a leprosarium, Christian churches,- and some prominent Muslim places.
After two weeks we went to Dhaka’s airport to return to our home, sweet home in California.
In Summary:
Then you will find your joy in the Lord, and I will cause you to ride on the heights of the land….
