    One Night At The Beach

    Sam watched as she drifted along the beach. A glance at his watch told him, she was a little earlier than usual tonight, arriving just before the sun set. All through August and into September, she’d been there, trudging down to the high tide line, and south along the shore, until she disappeared from view. Then she'd returned an hour or so later and headed back up the pathway to her little grey sedan parked near the boardwalk. Every night, the conflict within him grew—sitting in front of the big bay window in his beachfront home, eyes following her lithe form as she drifted through the sand with her shoulders drooping.

    Lately, she’d strolled more briskly, and he had begun to think he could approach her, let her know about him, and the feelings he’d had for her for such a long, weary time. Maybe. Or perhaps he should let things lie, and not open old wounds.

    After all, she’d made her opinion of him clear the last time they spoke.
