Waffle's Trip to Big Bend National Park - Deirdre Fuller
INTRODUCTION
Hello, my name is Waffle, and I want to tell you about my adventures in Texas. Maybe you have heard of my friends Horsey, and Bandit. Bandit’s mom and my mom are friends. When I read their stories, I wanted to write my own, and my mom offered to help make my story become part of the Horsey and Friends Series.
Hmmmm, where to start? Well, I should probably introduce my family. Dad’s name is Robert, Mom’s name is Dee, my sister is Alex, and my brother is Will. Alex didn’t get to come on this trip, and we were all very sad about that.

Now about our trip…we are going to Big Bend National Park. Have you ever heard of it? Don’t worry if you haven’t. Most people haven’t. It is in West Texas. It is a huge park and follows the Rio Grande. Did you know in Mexico the river is called Rio Bravo? Weird, huh? (Rio means River, Grande means Large, Bravo means Stormy or Brave) Ok, so back to our trip. Mom and Dad love Big Bend. They went there on their honeymoon, and go back whenever they can.

We live in Huntsville, Alabama. It is about 1300 miles to Big Bend. Dad says it will take about 22 hours to get there. And yes, we will stop and sleep along the way. I should probably tell you that we are going in our RV. It is pretty cool, because when we go on a trip we take our own little house with us. It has a bedroom for Mom and Dad, a fold out couch for Will and me, a bathroom, a kitchen and a dining room table. It even has a TV.
We had been planning this trip for a couple of months, and it was finally time to GO!
Day 1
We got up very early on a Friday morning. It was so early that Will went out to the RV in his pjs, crawled under a blanket and went back to sleep. It was about 35 degrees outside. We were all anxious to get to the desert where the temperature would be about 65 or 70 in the morning. Dad hooked the Jeep up to the back of the RV and we were ready to go. The RV
