Staying motivated
Staying motivated in exercise and diet can be difficult, especially if you are new to it or have been inactive for a while. It can be handled like any other kind of goal, with small incremental goals and triggers. Keeping records and setting goals help keep you on track. When you write something down it makes it more tangible and makes you take ownership. For exercising keep a journal, write what you do and when. This means keeping track of duration, rep/sets, intensity, and weight/resistance. You will now have a frame of reference and you can work on improving those numbers, also you can plan rest or deloading. Giving your body a chance to recover is important also, neglecting this can lead to overtraining. Overtraining syndrome can cause a decrease in performance and decrease the desire to exercise, which can lead to a slippery slope towards quitting.
Keeping good records for a diet is equally important. This way you can see not only what you ate but portion size, timing, and how you responded. Everyone has different energy requirements and responds to meal timing differently. On person might be fine with one big meal while other may respond better to small frequent meals. A food journal will help track this. Food journals also help to discourage you form eating unhealthy food. You might feel bad about writing that KFC double stacker down. Along with this tracking your daily weight will make the journal more robust by giving you feedback as to how your current eating habits are affecting weight. Morning weigh ins work the best, it is a consist time of day and you have fasted through the night. Just make sure you wear the same thing at each weigh in or go el natural. Weighing in prior to bed can also let you see how your body fluctuated during the day and how much you metabolized at night.
Staying motivated in diet and exercise means setting goals. Reach those goals by setting up systems and habits that give feedback and foster routine.
Exercise and Aging
Most people are aware of the benefits of exercise for a healthy body, but the information about brain health is not as conspicuous. It is not new advice, many people know someone who is old and is still sharp
because they keep moving. The difference now is that there is more scientific evidence to show that exercise
