Introduction
In today's world of casual relationships, more women in the work force, instant communications, and frequent travel, cheating on a romantic partner has become an increasing temptation for many adults. Not only is cheating increasingly common at college and in the workplace, but it's also on the rise among older age groups as well. One recent UK study found 30 percent of people over 50 had had sex with someone other than their regular partner. Although there are no real statistics on how many marriages end because of infidelity, it's likely that rising infidelity is creating an increasing amount of emotional distress in relationships and is helping contribute to today's high divorce rate. However, cheating isn't just determined by opportunity - it's also strongly influenced by personal and environmental factors like personality, gender and upbringing. In this article I'll discuss some of the latest scientific research about infidelity to give you a better idea of what makes a cheater, and thus help you to avoid the costly mistake of entering a long-term relationship with someone who is likely to be unfaithful.
