About this ebook

The Bhagawan Uvacha series brings to devotees the world over, a compilation of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba's teachings in the form of quotations, skilfully compiled and woven together by Shri. N. S. Venkatesh, the compiler.

In this book in the series, Only Love, Shri. Venkatesh says, "Love is a very special word. Much spoken of and sadly much misunderstood. Bhagawan speaks of love through images... a sandalwood tree that gives fragrance to the axe that chops it down, a mother whose life holds no value before the life of her little one. Love is all about selfless living, holding nothing back, and giving oneself away completely. How are we to comprehend this divine trait that proverbially ‘makes the world go round’? If love could speak, what would it say? Listen to Bhagawan, love personified, as He speaks in the next few pages..."

Only Love - Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba

    Foreword

Love is a very special word. Listen to Bhagawan, love personified, as He speaks in the next few pages...

    Prema Swarupulara...

    (Embodiments of Love)

Love of the Divine is of four kinds:

    Swartha Prema

    (Love based on self interest)

It is like a lamp kept in the room.

The lamp illumines only the room.

This kind of selfish love is confined to a limited group and does not extend to others.

    Samanjasa Prema

(May be compared to the light of the moon)

This moonlight is visible outside and inside.

It is, however, not very effulgent.

    The light is dim.

This kind of love extends to a wider group, but it is not very intense.

    Parartha Prema

    (It is like sunlight)

It illumines both outside and inside with brilliance.

Yet, it is not continuous in the sense that the sun is not visible at night.

This is not a permanent absence, because the sun rises again.

Actually, the sun is always there.

Likewise, the selfless love appears to be absent sometimes, but it will appear again.

    Yathartha Prema

    (Atma Prema)

This love is present always inside and outside, in all places, at all times, and under all circumstances. This is Divine love, which is imperishable, eternal, and is immanent in every one. When this love is manifested by a person, he achieves peace.
