He is the co-founder of the prestigious Academy of Historical Fencing that teaches traditional armed and unarmed European martial arts. His specialist subject areas are teaching the use of the medieval two handed longsword and the German long knife in both the UK and other parts of Europe.He academic background is as varied as his writing with degrees in Computing, Classical Studies and Machine Learning.     LaGuardia Airport, New York

    Captain Mathew O’Neill stood next to the Humvee, its engine running and adding to the noise of the numerous other National Guard vehicles. A series of high power lamps lit up the area to reveal scores of men scurrying about, readying themselves for the coming battle. It was three weeks since the zombie outbreak and the military was now in a position to stage its return to Manhattan. Corporal Donoghue popped his head out of the small side window and shouted over to him.

    Sir, Colonel Donovan is calling over all unit commanders on the tactical net, he shouted.

    O’Neill nodded and moved briskly towards the hangars that had been requisitioned by the army over the last week. After the disastrous attempts to hold the city had failed, the airport had become a forward staging area for both the military build up and also evacuation of as many people as could be saved. Only the destruction of most of the bridges and constant air cover had been able to cordon the undead off in the city, though many groups were still roving the outer suburbs.

    As O’Neill approached the entrance he spotted at least thirty officers crowded around a map table. Several of the officers made their way inside and to the briefing. He approached the nearest chair and sat down at the table. He looked around, recognising most of the men from the 69th Infantry Brigade, part of
