DEALING WITH PHONE-TEXT BULLYING
Mobile phones and other devices are not the root of the problem; it is the person behind the phone that can be the problem.
The only way that a school can solve the problem of text bullying is NOT by banning the use of the item but by regulating and monitoring its use within your grounds and according to your terms and conditions.
On the previous introduction page you find links to various resources that will be referred to on this page. These items are to be introduced into school policy in order to regulate and monitor the use of mobile phones on your school grounds.
The first step, if it is not already in place, is to ensure that it is made clear that ALL mobile phones are switched OFF during class time. Teachers could introduce a 3 strikes
method in the classroom in order to drive home the message: First a warning to switch the phone off; second, a warning to switch off or it will be confiscated; third, confiscate the phone until the end of the day.
That takes care of interruptions and the possibility of text bullying during class hours.
The next steps will ensure the complete monitoring and regulation of the use of mobile phones within the school grounds.
Regulation:
Use the forms from the free download section to regulate the use of mobile phones within your school.
The first form - Mobile Record Card for students to complete (download) should be given or made available to all students.
It must be made clear that unless a student completes one of these forms to register the number of their mobile phone and hands it into the office,
