About this ebook
I'm not a professional bowler nor a professional bowling coach, and I suggest that if any of you have the time and the money you should take advantage of one of the many excellent clinics that are available today. However, me not being a pro is the very reason I think this book will work for many average league bowlers like myself.

Award winning author E. DON HARPE has had a varied career, from military service in the 60’s to years spent as a published songwriter in Nashville. During this time he won the coveted Silver Pen Award from the Nashville Banner newspaper. Since retiring from public work in 2004, Harpe has concentrated on writing novels, and continuing to move forward with his writing. He also has nearly 40 short stories available which can be found on Smashwords as well as other sites that feature ebooks. His book of memoirs, THE LAST OF THE SOUTH TOWN RINKY DINKS, published in September of 2008, was an instant success with friends and readers alike. The stories are touching, down to earth tales of small town America, and will bring tears and laughter to all who can remember when the world was a kinder, simpler place. It’s one of those books that you won’t be able to put down, and one that you will re-read many times over the years. Now living in Georgia, Harpe devotes his time to Helen, his wife of nearly 50 years, to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and to his writing. “I’m pretty satisfied in my own skin right now,” Harpe says, “and I just want to continue to write things that will entertain and hold the readers interest.”

This book is written for the thousands of league bowlers all across the country who love the game and participate in one or more leagues every week.
It is especially dedicated to the owners and operators of the bowling centers, to the lane men and to the men and women who work behind the counters, and to the hard working people in the pro-shops. These folks work long hours trying to make the game more fun for all of the rest of us, and seldom get enough thanks for a job well done.
I'm not a professional bowler nor a professional bowling coach, and I suggest that if any of you have the time and the money you should take advantage of one of the many excellent clinics that are available today. However, me not being a pro is the very reason I think this book will work for many average league bowlers like myself. I've written it in terms that I think are easy to understand and, I hope, easy to put into practice. Over the years I've learned a lot of little things that have helped me keep my game on track, and those are the things I've tried to pass along to you in this book.
Thank you for buying this book, I hope you enjoy it, and I wish you the best of luck with your game.

BOWLING BETTER
Keys to A Higher Average
Although it's a fact that all bowlers can't carry a 200 average, I believe that everyone can use the tips in this book, along with a good practice routine, to raise their average several pins, and have more fun at the same time.
After all, bowling is really nothing more than a game that involves knocking down ten sticks of wood with a ball.
It’s safe to say that most anyone who is willing to learn a little more about the game, and then practice what they learn, will soon notice that their average is moving on up.
I hope you enjoy reading this book, I hope you see your average improve, and most of all I hope you have a lot more fun, and a lot less pain on the lanes.
FIRST: A FEW BOWLING FACTS
How long is the bowling lane?
The lane is 60 feet long measured from the foul line to the headpin and a total length from foul line to end of pin deck of 62 feet and 3/16 inches.
What are the bowling pins made from?
Bowling pins are normally made of wood or synthetic materials. In order to protect the wood a plastic coating is usually applied. In recent years bowling pins have been designed using aluminum and solid synthetic materials.
How heavy are bowling balls?
Bowling balls will range from 6 pounds to 16 pounds. Due to innovations in modern design and manufacturing processes, many professional and amateur bowlers are able to drop a pound or two in the ball weight while still maintaining the reaction desired.
What is a perfect score?
A perfect game is 300, and is scored by having 12 consecutive strikes in a Row beginning in the 1st frame and ending with 3 strikes in the 12th frame.
