Invisible Enemies - Lynda D. Brown

    ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

I would like to thank God, for blessing me with my writing ability. Thank you for sustaining me until I found the right vehicle for my writing. Writing for you Lord is truly my worship to you. I give You, all the praise and glory.

To Ms. Brenda Hampton, bestselling author of the Naughty series, thank you for critiquing my manuscript and doing a wonderful book cover for me. Your words of encouragement, truly confirmed for me that writing is what God intended me to do for His Kingdom. I can’t tell you how many yokes were broken off my life because of your praise.

To Ms. Anaïs C. Elliott, a mighty young woman of God, thank you for reviewing my book and the awesome review you wrote for it, reaffirming my thoughts that this book will have an impact on any age group. Stay blessed.

To Odessa Ficklin, you are a true friend. Thank you for reading my rough draft. Your enthusiasm for this book lifted my heart, and I thank you for your support and encouragement. I’m so glad that reading this book, and watching me as I went through my changes, my ups and downs, and never losing faith, never stopped writing, you turned around my sister, and gave your life over to the Lord. Now I’m blessed to see you on ‘fire’ for the Lord and getting out of the way, and letting God take over.

To Ms. Lorraine Smith, again your praise and enthusiasm for this book let me know that even those in the secular world will enjoy reading this book. When you said that I left you hanging with the conclusion of Invisible Enemies, I knew it was time to get busy on the sequel. Thank you and bless you.

Last but certainly not least, to my son Travis D. Brown, you inspired me to ‘just do it!" Watching you pursue your love for music and producing your own CD’s, made me really step up to the plate, and get this project done.

To my readers: I really hope you enjoy this book. God has put it on my heart, to make this one of many, creating the Invisible Enemies Series. He has already given me the titles and instructions for the next five books! He is so wonderful and worthy to be praised. Many of the issues the characters face in this book come from my own personal experience. For many years, I was involved in witchcraft, actively doing horoscopes charts and readings, tarot readings. I used drugs, and spent many years in sexual relationships with married men. With many years of prayer and submitting myself to God’s will and crucifying my flesh, I can thank Him for delivering me from all that mess. I am here to tell you that some spirits can only be broken by praying and fasting, and once I committed myself to that, yokes and strongholds were broken completely from my life.

I pray that this book, which is my testimony, and the power of God’s mighty Word, will help set millions free. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.

    PROLOGUE

One beautiful glorious morning in heaven, the angels came to sit and worship at the foot of the Lord’s throne, and Satan was with them. The Lord frowned at the fallen angel and asked him, Where have you come from Satan? I have been wandering around the earth; causing chaos among those animals you call Humans. He sneered. The Lord looked at him and grinned. Have you noticed my servant Abby? She loves me with all her heart and soul. She sings and prays to me daily. Satan looked at his father and laughed. She loves and worships You because she is just a child. She has her parents to love and care for her. If I destroyed everything in her life, she would crumble and curse you to your face! The Lord thought for a moment, and then he looked at Satan. I will take that wager. I give you permission to try and destroy Abby, but you can’t take her life. Satan bowed low before his Father. I accept. Then Satan spread his long tattered black wings and flew back to earth.

    BOOK ONE

    CHAPTER ONE

I should have slugged her. Ruthie Harris thought as she trudged home through the deep, wet snow from the bus stop. She was mad. Not at anyone or anything in particular, she was just mad at life in general. She had lost her dream job as executive housekeeper at the White House for no good reason that she could think of, and her husband, Leroy, couldn’t care less, as long as she was working somewhere!

Leroy cared about bills being paid and saving money. He was thrifty. Ruthie called him cheap. They had four kids, Candace, a senior, Abigail or Abby, a junior, and the twins, Michael and Hannah, were in middle school.

Leroy worked for the Ford Motor Plant, he had been there almost twenty years, and Ruthie had been at the White House for twelve. It just wasn’t fair. She couldn’t see the small demon floating beside her, whispering in her ear about how unfair life was. I just don’t know why I keep trying, she repeated, hearing the demon subconsciously.

The demon grinned. It had been following her for the past two weeks waiting for a chance to get in. She was a church going woman, but her heart was not right, so she was fair game for the demon to harass. She had handled the lost of her job fine until one of her new co-workers smarted off to her yesterday, thanks again to the demon following her, and she began to miss all of the power that went with being in charge. Her pride kicked in, and she was very nasty to her co-worker, and the demon attacked. It had been tormenting her ever since.

Ruthie didn’t know why she felt so angry and upset. Her life was good; heck better than good and her new job wasn’t too bad. "If you don’t mind taking orders from someone younger and less experienced than you the demon reminded her. Ruthie fumed. I knew I shouldn’t have taken that job as assistant executive housekeeper, that stupid child has no clue what she’s doing!" As she stuck her key into the door lock, another imp instantly appeared at her side, and the two demons grinned at each other as they accompanied her inside her home, to torment her and her family.

Ruthie closed the door and placed her purse on the table in the foyer. She put her coat in the closet, closed the living room curtains, and went into the kitchen where her daughter, Candace, was preparing dinner. Where is Abby? Ruthie asked. Candace went to the sink to rinse off the lettuce to make a salad. She had choir rehearsal after school. She should be home in an hour, she replied. Ruthie put her hands on her hips and scowled. Again she didn’t know why she was angry, she just was. She didn’t tell me she had practice today, you wait till she gets her little butt home. Just because she’s at church, doesn’t mean she gets out of helping out around here! Ruthie fumed. Candace hid a little smile from her mom; she loved getting Abby in trouble. Abby was such a little goody two shoes! Just then, unbeknownst to Candace and Ruthie, another demon popped in to join the other two who were sitting at the kitchen table, watching mother and daughter. A jealousy demon had joined the party!

Abby Harris hurried through the front door. She took off her coat, and hung it up neatly, so her mom wouldn’t have a fit, and went into the dining room to join the others for supper. She sat down, and waited patiently for her mom to finish saying grace, so she could run into the kitchen and wash her hands. When her mom finished, she looked at Abby and glared. I don’t remember you telling me you had choir rehearsal today. She said icily. Abby turned and stared at the calendar hanging on the wall in the kitchen. I wrote it on the calendar, like you told me, mom. she said patiently. Ruthie rolled her eyes. Just go wash your hands, and get your butt back here and eat, she snapped. Abby went into the kitchen, washed her hands and came back to the table.

Candace watched as Abby returned back to the table. She wanted to trip her, pull her seat out, just anything to humiliate her. Candace didn’t like her sister. She hated her. The jealousy demon looked at the other two demons, bid them farewell, and leaped inside Candace! Candace was seventeen, and old enough to know better than to hate anyone. The demon took possession of her, and f e d on that hatred for h e r sister.

Once inside, he called on more and more of his buddies to join him, and from that day on, Candace was changed forever.

Leroy Harris glanced at his second child and beamed. She was so beautiful. Tall and thin like her mom; Abby w o r e her shoulder length auburn hair in micro braids. She had the most amazing hazel eyes, something she inherited from Leroy’s mom, Hattie Harris. Abby loved nearly everyone. It was like she had a six sense with animals and people. Everyone at Grace Faith church was crazy about his baby. Not only was Abby pretty and sweet, his baby could sing too. She got her singing skills from him, because back in the day, Leroy was a member of the Back-Alley Boys, one of the biggest local R&B groups around. Now, he and Abby were both singing for the Lord; he was just not as committed as his baby girl was. She had the calling, a true calling from God. Leroy could just feel it.

It’s a basketball game on tonight, Abby, eat up, girl, we don’t want to miss tip off, he said to her. Ruthie glared at her husband and then her daughter. First, she needs to do the dishes, t h e n her homework, before she watches television. Leroy glared back at his wife. Another demon floated down from the ceiling and sat next to Leroy. "She’s such a witch," the demon whispered in his ear. Leroy glared at his wife, thinking, she’s such a witch.

Abby, sensing the tension in the room quickly stood up and grabbed her dishes. No problem. I did my homework at school. I’ll just do the dishes, and then, Dad, I’ll be out to watch the game with you.

With dishes in hand, Abby pushed her seat back to the table, and was making her way past her sister, when Candace stuck her foot out to trip her. A flash of pain hit Candace in the leg, and she quickly pulled her leg back and looked down to see what happened. A slight welt was beginning to disappear from her calf. She looked at it in amazement.

Someone else was also amazed. But he saw more than Candace, did, way more. He saw the sword that made the mark, and the nearly invisible wrist that held the sword. One of the Lord’s angels was protecting this girl. The small imp flew off to alert Azazel.

    CHAPTER TWO

The two tall heavenly beings looked at each other in alarm. "I told you to be careful, Phanuel. Raphael said, as he peered through the spirit world and watched the demon fly off to warn Azazel. Now our cover has been blown, and they know we are protecting this girl. Phanuel lowered his head in shame. Sorry, Captain, it won’t happen again." Raphael nodded. He understood Phanuel’s frustration only too well. They had been sent to protect Abby just in time. They saw the invisible enemies that followed Ruthie into the house, and then, two more manifested while they were having dinner. The huge nine foot, bronzed skin, fair- haired angel, Raphael, followed Abby into the kitchen. As she loaded the dishwasher, he began whispering into her ear, that she needed to pray for her mom, dad and her sister.

He smiled as she bowed her head quickly and prayed for her family. Raphael continued to whisper in her ear, the need for her to pray and pray earnestly.

Across town, the small demon skidded to a halt on a roof in front of his master, Azazel. "Sir, something is going on. I just saw one of His warriors standing guard over the girl. Oh, please Sir, what does it mean? Azazel swatted the small demon out of his way, and angrily stalked back and forth across the roof. We are in charge here! We should not have to deal with His warriors! Stand guard here, I need to see the Master." With a flick of his black tattered wings, he was off.

Michael and Gabriel, the Most High’s Archangels, watched from Heaven as Azazel flew off to meet with Satan. "It has started," Michael said grimly.

Azazel bowed down in front of his Lord and Master, Satan. He rose and hastily made his way to Satan’s throne. "The Most High has his warriors in D.C. protecting the girl. Satan looked stunned. What? I was promised no interference! Satan roared. He jumped down from his throne and quickly summoned one of his messengers. I need to petition The Most High regarding this girl. Get me a meeting! The messenger imp flew off. Satan turned back to Azazel. Surround that house with demons; make no move until I get back with you. Just watch them." He yelled.

"Yes Master; a discord demon has possession of the father; the mother is possessed by a despair demon, and the older sister, a jealousy demon. She hates her sister." Azazel reported in a trembling voice.

He knew it was not good when his Master was upset. The eight-foot, ugly demon quickly moved back as Satan stalked angrily back and forth. Finally he stared at the quivering Azazel. Satan nodded, satisfied. "Good."

    CHAPTER THREE

The Most High looked down at the fallen angel at his feet. "Where have you come from? He asked. I have been wandering around the earth going back and forth in it." Satan stated as he rose and arrogantly looked his Father in the face. He accused Leroy, Ruthie and Candace, of being unrighteous and unworthy of God’s love and protection. Satan petitioned for their souls. The Lord’s heart was grieved. He loved his children, Leroy, Ruthie and Candace. T h e y attended church, paid their tithes, and were good people, but t h e y didn’t have a relationship with him. Not like His dear little Abby, who constantly sought him in prayer and supplication. He had no choice but to grant Satan his request. With a smile, Satan disappeared.

Satan reappeared seconds later in his own hot, smelly dark lair, and summoned Azazel. The ugly demon materialized instantly in front of Satan’s throne. "I have successfully petitioned His Most High for the souls of the Harris’ family, use them to destroy her," Satan ordered.

    CHAPTER FOUR

Candace loved being the oldest child. S he bossed h e r brothers and sisters around every chance she got. C a n d ace had been spoiled rotten before her sister arrived on the scene. The new baby, a beautiful, sweet natured child, stole all the attention Candace once enjoyed. To Candace disgust, the love affair continued to this day. Abby had lots of friends, at school and church. Abby treated everyone the same, while Candace was snobbish and uppity. She reveled in the fact that she was a straight A student, with scholarship offers coming in from all the top schools in the nation. Abby made friends very easily. Candace didn’t, and she hated Abby f o r that more than anything.

Candace dream was to be an attorney, and her proud parents knew she would achieve that goal. Candace, had a slim build like her mother and sister, but she suffered from a severe case of acne that no medication could successfully treat. She had no sense of fashion, usually wearing jeans and tee shirts or sweat suits. Abby had looks, and a great sense of fashion, but as far as Candace was concerned, her sister was just a Holy Roller loser, wasting her life away at that stupid old church that Candace hated.

Abby, was an average student, and so were the twins, Michael and Hannah. However, it didn’t matter how smart Candace was, or how much her mom and dad bragged about her, as soon as Abby entered the room, all eyes and conversations were then centered on her.

    Candace hated her sister’s guts!

The jealousy demon lying on Candace’s shoulder, whispered in her ear how Abby intentionally takes attention away from her. Candace fumed. Abby always has to be the center of attention, she thought as she jealously watched her sister at church the following Sunday. Candace didn’t feel good. She didn’t want to come to church and tried every lie she could come up with, but her mom still made her go. She squirmed through the whole service.

When church was over, the family stood outside in the church parking lot, waiting for Leroy to bring the car around. Her friends from the youth choir surrounded Abby. Candace waited with her mom and the twins. Will you stop fidgeting, Ruthie whispered fiercely to her eldest daughter, You’re acting worse than Hannah and Michael.

Hannah, who was patiently standing next to her mom, grinned at her older sister. Candace snarled at her, and Hannah shocked, moved behind her mom.

Ruthie, who had witnessed the exchange between her daughters, looked at Candace in horror. What’s wrong with you? Candace looked at her, and shrugged.

Later that night, Satan’s head demon, Azazel appeared at the Harris home. He wanted to see for himself this girl that His Most High held in such high esteem. The other demons stood at attention as he walked past them, looking for Abby. He walked through the wall of Candace’s room, and she continued to sleep, undisturbed. The next bedroom he entered belonged to Michael, who also slept without stirring. When h e walked into Hannah’s room, she woke up instantly, opened her eyes, and stared in horror at the big ugly monster in her room. She quickly ducked her head under her cover, and began to tremble. Azazel smiled. He walked through her wall and into Abby’s room.

He froze as he sensed the presence of the Lord’s angels. Abby stirred in her sleep, then woke up and saw the demon standing in her room. They stared at each other. Shocked, but unafraid, Abby began to pray and call out for Jesus. Alarmed, Azazel disappeared instantly.

The two angelic warriors had made themselves invisible to the demon. They looked at each other and smiled. Abby knew just how to get rid of the powerful demon. They looked over at her and watched as she turned on her reading lamp, pulled her bible out of her nightstand and began to read and pray.

    CHAPTER FIVE

The mighty demon, Azazel returned to his own dark, damp smelly lair. He was still shaken by his encounter with the Harris girl. The girl did have power, and she knew how to use it. He debated whether or not to share this information with his Master, and then decided to wait and see what his demons could do. They knew this assignment was very important to Satan, and they also knew the consequences for failure.

Azazel enjoyed his status as Satan’s top henchman. It had been many years since he was free to wander the earth again. Azazel was one of the leaders of the angels, who many years ago, left their first estate as Watcher’s over humans, as they began populating the earth. Those angels fell in love with human women, and took them as wives. The wives had children by their angelic husbands, and the hybrids produced by this ungodly union, were called Nephilim, giants that stood well over 12 feet tall. The evil, vile giants attacked and corrupted humans and God’s earthly creatures, producing even more mutant abominations to God. When the human’s meager food supplies ran out, trying to feed the giant creatures, the enraged Nephilim turned on the humans and began to eat them!

Fed up, the Lord sent Gabriel, his messenger Archangel, down to earth to find Noah, the only man who still had a heart for God, and whose bloodline had not been corrupted by the fallen angels. Gabriel told Noah to build an ark that would hold his family and their spouses and two animals from each species, one male, one female. Gabriel explained to Noah that God was going to destroy the evil Nephilim and all their abnormal offspring’s with a flood.

Azazel still harbored great resentment towards God, who destroyed the Nephilim, with the Great Flood, as their angelic fathers watched, helpless to save their monstrous offspring’s. Then the Lord commanded Michael and his warrior angels, to bind all the fallen ones in chains and bury them deep into the earth. Azazel still couldn’t believe his luck, that he had been released once again to roam the earth, creating chaos.

Azazel was still determined to produce a new race of hybrids, this time with help from advance technology and genetic scientist that his Master had hidden deep in the bowels of the earth. Azazel’s biggest fear was being replaced by the other powerful demons in his Master’s regime. All demons’ were power hungry and were loyal to no one except the Master. Azazel, however, had a plan B. He had powerful demonic spirits roaming the earth, pretending to be spirit guides, leading millions astray. If he botched the assignment with the Harris’, he still had a plan to fall back on.

During breakfast the next morning, Abby noticed that Hannah was unusually quiet.

Hannah, at thirteen, was small for her age and had thick black hair that she wore in micro braids, like her sister, Abby. She and Michael were fraternal twins. He was three inches taller than Hannah’s five feet three inches, and they both looked like their father Leroy. Especially Michael, he was the spitting image of Leroy, who was still a very attractive man at forty-two. Michael loved his sister Candace. She was mean and evil to her sisters, but never with him. He knew he could always count on her to play
