      INTRODUCTION

      Cinderella had her Prince Charming. Sleeping Beauty sang the words, Someday my prince will come. Arielle was willing to give up life as she knew it for the sake of being with her true-love, Prince Eric and Belle’s love for the beast was so strong and true that it turned him back into a handsome young man.

      Oh, the joys of those happily ever-after tales of love. But everyone knows that’s all they are…fairytales. Instead, the words of the song sung country music’s Johnny Lee are more accurate in today’s society…Lookin’ for love in all the wrong places; lookin’ for love in too many faces…."

      The fact that 42% of adults in America are single for one reason or another (divorce, death of spouse, never married) tells you that being single is not a rarity in our society. In spite of this fact, much of society is geared toward couples. Think about it…

      1. Restaurants have ‘family nights’

      2. Wedding invitations are addressed to Sally Single and guest

      3. The media is filled with advertisements for websites to help you find that special someone

      4. Even a nationally known fast-food chain seems to think a sexy, scantily-dressed girl will send young single men in droves to buy their burgers

      But let’s go back to the words of that song. Obviously we’re not looking in the right places for that special last-a-lifetime kind of love. If we were, the divorce and spousal abuse rates in our country wouldn’t be so shamefully high. Neither would the fact that many single people go from one relationship to another; investing themselves emotionally, physically and sexually as casually as if they were trying on shoes.

      So what’s the deal? Why is being single so…so…discouraging? It’s because you haven’t found the love of your life yet.
