The rose petals spilled like blood droplets onto the unmade bed. She lay there, the death fresh on her pretty face. He bent down and kissed her still warm cheek.
Thank you,
he whispered as he placed the single rose alongside her ruined body.
He walked out of the apartment building unnoticed in his faded jeans and oxford shirt. His loafers padded quietly on the sidewalk as he walked to the local coffee shop. A group of guys—his college buddies—were waiting at a table, drinking coffee, talking loudly. They waved him over.
Trev! Hey, man, pull up a chair.
He glanced at his watch. You’re right on time. Eight on the nose.
Trevor James took a seat.
His friend sniffed the air.
Damn, buddy, you smell like roses.
It’s the new Axe cologne. Women throw flowers at me.
His buddies laughed while he pushed his chair back. He stood and went to order his favorite coffee—hazelnut chocolate. Trevor smiled at the attractive cashier. She flirted
