About this ebook

Returning to class after a case of the chicken pox, Zoë Costello—known to her many “clients” as the Zoë Lama—is certain the halls of Allencroft Middle School will be a disaster zone after a week without her confident advice. To her shock, everything is running smoothly. Someone has stepped up to take her place, and that girl is Devon Sweeney: tall, blond, pretty, impeccably dressed and a year younger than Zoë. What’s worse, thanks to a classroom merger, she and Zoë are now in the same grade six/seven split class!

Before Zoë can spell usurp, Devon has stolen her best client, charmed their teacher and snatched weekend care of Boris, the class guinea pig, from under Zoë’s nose. There’s no respite at home either. Zoë’s mother wants to move out of the apartment where they’ve lived since she was little. The whole disaster comes together in a school project that pits Zoë against Devon in a mock election. Just when things get worse, Zoë discovers a secret about Devon that could change everything—until she learns something else that changes things even more.

The One and Only Zoë Lama, Tish Cohen’s second book for children, is a funny and charming story of confidence, over-confidence and seeing things for what they really are. Zoë’s comic misadventures and realistic fears will touch the hearts of kids and parents alike, leaving them laughing, cheering and begging for the next Zoë Lama tale.

Zoë Monday Costello is back... and she's just gotten over the chicken pox. When she returns to school, there's a new kid in the 7th grade: Devon Sweeney, who's not only catching everyone's attention for being new, but she's stepping on Zoë's toes by giving out advice to all of Zoë's "clients"! Now our favorite "Zoë Lama" has to compete with "the Devon Lama." Devon has good looks and popularity, and the entire 7th grade appears to be abandoning Zoë and turning to Devopn for help instead. Compassion and understanding are Zoë's strong points, but even she can get pushed too far. She's got to figure out how to take down this challenger and reinstate herself as the queen of all good advice and help... but sometimes you need to know a little more about your adversary. Zoë finds out more than she ever expected, and has to decide: hang onto her bad feelings about Devon, or try to help her out? Lots of humor and fun in a great story! 6th grade and up.
