I was raised in a small town in Michigan and was born with a congenital problem in both knees. I went through many surgeries, trying to correct the problem but there was never really a cure. Little did I know, that God had "branded" me at birth, for such a moment as this. Many in this world grow up and go to school or college, to get their education but that's not what God had in store for me. My education for writing, came from twenty-one painful knee surgeries, heartache from sexual abuse as a child, and the loss of many things in my life, including the loss of children. As each painful moment came and as each loving desire left; God was taking all the brokenness in my life, and He was piecing it together, so I could have the heart He desired...a heart that could understand and care, for others who live in despair. I thank Jesus Christ, for these beautiful words that He has given me over time! If it wasn’t for His wisdom; then there would be no words to write. Jesus is the main source, for everything in my life and I know that just as these words have healed my heart and soul; they will also touch your heart in a very special way.

Through time, I have come to see that Jesus’ words are the only remedy and cure, for what ails me; whether it’s a physical or emotional need. His words also have a way of soothing the mind, from the cares and worries that attempt to take over our thoughts, while going through times of distress.

In addition, I would like to dedicate this book; to those who are going through very difficult moments of pain and heartache, in their lives. Our circumstances have a way of leading us down dark and dismal paths that can allow us to feel, as though we will never be able to press on in life; but when we use God’s words of hope to become medicine, to our hurting souls and spirits; then once more, we can see a glimpse of light; that can keep us focused on a powerful God, rather than a weak circumstance.

Peace…a Refuge of Sustainment, Until the Storm Passes By

Most times, we think of peace, as a time of rest…a time away from the world and the problems that associate us with the world but peace is really a time, when we have a calm assurance, that God has everything under control…a time when we can settle back and know in our hearts and minds, that our God will take care of us.

John 14:27 says…Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. The world’s definition of peace is to be free from problems. They only identify with the word, peace, when everything seems to be going their way but on the other hand, we as Christians should view the word peace, in a different way. We should be experiencing peace, even in the midst of the storm.

When a hurricane hits, the quietest part of the storm is in the midst or eye of the hurricane. Everything around the eye of the hurricane can be destructive but if someone was to enter the eye of the storm, they would find a calmness that would make them think that there was no storm at all. In a similar way, we need to remember that God’s peace can be found too, in the midst or eye of our storm. We don’t have to wait until the storm completely passes by, in order to experience God’s peace. The storm may seem fierce, as it rages around us but when we can discover a place, where we can rest in the peace of God; then we will find a shelter that will take us away from the blunt of the storm and sustain us.

Our storm today may seem as though it’s the strength of a thunderstorm, while other times, we may feel as if a hurricane is headed our direction; but one thing we need to remember…we don’t have to be beaten up by the effects of the storm. There is a place, where God can take us…a place where we don’t feel the effects of the storm…only His perfect peace and sustainment; where we can be sheltered, until the storm has passed by.

I pray that we will not allow our circumstances to whip us around and become destructive in our lives; but that we will seek God’s peace and pursue it; that we may discover a shelter, where we will be safe and filled with a peace that only comes from the presence of God.

How Can We Add Praise to Our Prayers?

How can we add praise into our prayer time? What will deepen our communication with God, while spending time with Him in prayer? Luke 11:1-4 reads...One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples. (2) He said to them, When you pray, say: Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come. (3) Give us each day our daily bread. (4) Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us. And lead us not into temptation." As we read these verses, we need to notice that Jesus first praised His Father, before asking anything of Him. When we can begin a prayer by praising God, even if it's just for knowing Him and who He has been to us, then we have allowed ourselves to open up a one to one communication with Him. Our praise becomes a means of lifting ourselves above our problems and concerns, to a place where we can talk heart to heart with God.

In addition, we need to quit making our prayer time, a to-do list for God and begin to enter our prayer time, with the right frame of mind. When we turn our prayer time into a to-do list for God, then we miss out on the moments we can truly share with Him...moments that will reassure us of His presence and love. I believe that God's desire is for us to sit, as children before Him and commune with Him. He longs for our love, just as we long for His love and help in return but how are we going to form a bond and relationship with Him, if we run to Him, with only a list of things that need to be done?

Last night, we had a storm and the sky was filled with bolts of lightning, while the thunder rumbled, as I hadn't heard in quite some time. The first thing that came to my thoughts was this...God...how I take your power and presence for granted at times. I hear the thunder rumbling in your presence and you have reminded me tonight, that you are a god of great power...a god that can do great and wondrous things in my life. Do we share the same feelings, when it comes to prayer? Can we find a reason to praise God and give Him the place that He so rightfully deserves or are we in a hurry, while we leave our to-do list behind with God?

I pray that we will take more time with God and find a reason to thank Him and praise Him each day, for the wondrous God He is!

What Source of Power Are We Using, During Difficult Times of Battle?

What source of power are we turning to today? Does our source of power come from God...a god who parted the Red Sea and caused shackles to fall to the ground, while prison doors opened, with just the presence of His Spirit? Do we see His resurrection, as a one-time event that reveals His power occasionally within our lives or does His Spirit of power reside within us all the time? Are we keeping the flame of His power alive or have our negative thoughts and words blown out the flame that should be burning within us?

Psalm 20:6-9 reads..."Now I know that the Lord saves his anointed; he answers him from his holy heaven with the saving power of his right hand. (7) Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the
