    Europe - Sam Dave Morgan

    Chapter 1: Introduction

Europe named after "Europa - Phoenician princess of Greek Mythology" is the second smallest continent in the world. Europe has a lot to offer no matter who you are or what your interests. It’s a continent with a large amount of stunning architecture, history, diversity in culture, climate and scenery.

Train holidays in Europe offer unique and diverse experiences in some of the world's most stunning locations. European countries are often known for their landmarks. These landmarks and sites are so famous and well known that we can identify the country often by the silhouette of these landmarks alone.

The World is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page - Saint Augustine

No prizes on offer; see if you can name the countries associated with these structures: The Shard, Vatican City, the Gherkin and Auschwitz. European countries are known for the famous events in history that they were host to – from great wars, to empires, to major political strife.

Thanks to the very layout of Europe, it is possible to see many of these sights and have many great experiences in a single trip. All you need to decide is where to go. There is no better way to see Europe than by Train.

    Where to go

European Union consists of 27 member states, specific travel interests are predominately around Schengen Countries.

The following countries are part of Schengen area - Austria, Belgium, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Germany, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Latvia, Malta, Holland or Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Slovenia and Slovakia.

The Schengen area and European Union are not one and same. Some EU countries are not in the Schengen region (for e.g. Ireland, United Kingdom, Romania and Bulgaria), and some Schengen countries are not in the EU (for e.g. Norway, Iceland and Switzerland).

    Visa Requirements

While EU citizens are free to move around the Schengen area without a visa, for citizens of the rest of the world, whether you need a visa depends on where you’re from.

Nationals of 39 countries (including Americans, Australians, Canadians, Croatians, Kiwis and Japanese) don’t need a visa to stay in the region for a maximum period of 90 days.

Rule Of Thumb: Do you know American citizens require visa for Australia travel? Well most travelers don’t and discover it only in airport on their day of travel.
