15 Seconds is a book that starts fast and keeps going. I'm generally not a big fan of thrillers, but this one drew me in. 19 year-old Amanda has a life that is anything but easy. High on Oxy, and trying to escape her problems, she makes the fatal mistake that will change her life forever. Henry Steadman is on his way to deliver a keynote speech in what he hopes to be a life turning point. Little does he know what type of turning point lies ahead. I wasn't sure how Amanda and Henry's stories were connected, but I can tell you that I wanted to find out.

I read madly through the first half of this book, hanging on every word. Andrew Gross knows just how to build suspense throughout the story. It's definitely tough not to keep reading on. Love getting lost in a book? Here's one that will do that for you. Trust me. Despite the fact that I sometimes felt a bit confused by the web of events, the story was so immersive that I just couldn't stop reading. It was like watching a car wreck, but being unable to look away. You have to know what happens. 15 Seconds is pure adrenaline.

Add in gripping and believable characters, and you have a book that is hard to put down. Henry, Carrie and Amanda all have their own unique backgrounds and personalities. I'd have to say that Carrie is my favorite. Faced with the choice between helping someone she barely knows, and keeping a safe distance, Carrie chooses to be a hero. She definitely kicks butt! Even the secondary characters are fabulously written. I'll say this, Gross knows hows his character building.

The one qualm that I had was that the story slowed significantly as it neared the end. Plus the closer I got the more I was able to see what was going to happen before it did. Not necessarily a bad thing! Trust me, I still definitely enjoyed this read. If you are a thriller fan, or if you are looking for a great place to start, get your hands on a copy of 15 Seconds. Then, hold on tight.

If you ever think you are having a bad day, just read the first few chapters of this book. Your life will seem so charmed then. This book is non stop heart pounding fun to read. The action does not let up throughout the book, almost putting you on overload.

The characters were developed strongly, and they were tied in together very well. The first few chapters had me kind of wondering what was going on, the stories seemed scattered, unrelated to each other. The author then ties them together masterfully.

It's a quick read, non stop action, and has characters you can root for. When it was finally disclosed who the culprit was, I almost stopped reading, because you can guess how it turned out. But I am glad I finished it. I highly recommend reading this book.

This is a GOOD book. Better than any Disney ride.......Twists and turns. I have a little way to go and hope it lasts and lasts. I don't ever do reviews with the story in them, because I feel you need to let books speak to you and then you can do the research. Reading is such a personal thing. We don't all like the same people so...To me the sign of a good book is that when you put it down and walk away you feel like something will happen before you get back.

While the plot was thoughtful and original, the characters failed to deliver anything of interest. Most were stereotypically good or bad people, never straying from script. For example, the female lead (and I can't even remember her name) is a fresh young widow with a trusting heart, but only to the wholly good Harry Steadman, who she intuits is totally innocent from a couple of phone conversations. She deeply loved her husband, but within a matter of months after his death, is flirty with fugitive Steadman and charging around with loaded guns.I think there was a lot of potential between the plot and the setting; Florida. But without strong characters, this is just another B grade adventure novel with plenty of action, but no real bang.

To Deborah Jean, her mother’s words of caution were unnecessary. After all, “What can happen in fifteen seconds?” 15 seconds. 15 fateful seconds is all it took to wreak havoc and utterly destroy lives. To nineteen year old Amanda, life was anything but easy, and is quickly spiraling downhill out of control. Her wretched dad always yelling, threatening; her uptight boss, asinine instructor, and two-timing boyfriend. And now, to top it all, she was going to be late to class again. Thank goodness she had her pills to help her cope. Traffic. A one-way street. 15 seconds. Lives forever altered.Vance Hofer died a little inside as Amanda, his “little girl,” cried for him to rescue her from a twenty year prison sentence. “How you gonna help me, Daddy?” Wanting to help, yet accepting that justice must prevail, he could never have anticipated the crushing blow of her answer as he questioned who stole his daughter, his “little girl.” “You done it, Daddy…It was you.” In contrast, Dr. Henry Steadman had it all. A thriving medical practice, a comfortable living, a daughter he was proud of, the great respect of his colleagues, some golf with his friend, Mike Dinofrio, and one former Miss Jacksonville waiting for him at the Marriott. This was shaping up to qualify as one of the ten days of greatness allotted to one’s life. Traffic. A one-way street. Lives forever altered.Henry’s wrong turn in an unfamiliar city brought Officer Martinez down on his case in a flash. It did little good to plead forgiveness with Martinez, who was obviously enamored with the power ascribed to his uniform. The charges piled up as Henry found himself squashed in the back seat of the police car, cuffed and under arrest, while numerous reinforcements arrived at the scene. But when the rest of the force had left, Martinez was suddenly struck dead by bullets from a blue sedan. Sure to be accused, Henry sought refuge at Mikes’ doorstep.Carrie’s return to the department’s community outreach division four months after the devastating loss of her husband was not an easy one. No time for easing back into routine, though. Fellow officer Martinez had just been killed, as well as CEO Mike Dinofrio, and she was manning the phone. Little did she realize, she would become the suspect’s lifeline, and her life would again be forever altered. Henry’s predicament worsens by the minute, but nothing could prepare him for the sudden announcement that his daughter, Hallie, had been kidnapped. It would be at her peril if he attempted to explain the events that had been carefully orchestrated to implicate him. Andrew Gross skillfully builds suspense throughout the entire story, keeping the reader riveted on the edge of their seats. I found the web of events to be somewhat confusing at first, but so spellbinding that I had to follow Henry as he relentlessly sought to rescue his daughter. 15 Seconds is a fabulous suspense! You couldn’t have pried it from me until I had read the last word.I received this advance copy as a GoodReads FirstReads giveaway, in exchange for my honest review.

Fast moving novel that starts with an incident that the author went through himself- over zealous police at a traffic stop. Dr. Steadman is on his way from the airport to his hotel to get dressed to go golfing with a friend when he is pulled over for going through a yellow light. Eventually he finds himself in handcuffs in the back seat of a police car. After the bazaar incident is rectified by other police officers and while waiting for the policeman to write up a warning, the officer is suddenly shot and killed by another motorist. Now Steadman is on the run when other police start shooting at him every time they see him.One of the characters is an angry poorly educated white man who blames the elite for his problems and ignores his own problems with anger management and alcohol. Sound familiar? The mystified doctor starts to search for who is targeting him and why. Don't start this unless you have a lot of free time. You won't be able to put it down.

This was an audio book and I have discovered that I do not like audio books. I had a hard time following the story line but then it was being read to me while my attention was being diverted elsewhere. The narrator did all the parts and somehow the female version of his voice tended to put me off rather than make me want to keep listening. I may want to get the hardcover version and actually read the story rather than have it read to me.

This is an interesting, indeed gripping, suspenseful, and dramatic story with essentially three fascinating plots. Henry Steadman is a very successful plastic surgeon; he is kind hearted, popular, respected, and has even donated much of his time in Nicaragua helping restore faces of impoverished people. He realizes that in just 15 seconds a person’s life can be changed and improved. He feels that today is such a day. But then he is pulled over by an over-enthusiastic and aggressive police officer and becomes a suspect in a series of murders. Carrie Holmes’s life seems serene until the day her son has a seizure and her husband, an ex-Army hero, dies from a stroke. She works as a community coordinator for the police department, but returns from grieving to become involved with a murder suspect against explicit instructions by her superiors. Vance Hofer is an ex-police officer with a wild daughter. Under the influence of drugs, she drive erratically, kills a mother and child, and is jailed. Hofer is unable to help her, but he is determined to get revenge against the people that sold her the drugs. Gross presents each plot clearly; we are able to see each character as well as the minor characters, such as the children of Steadman, Holmes, and Hofer, and each person who is killed. He develops his plots superbly, leaving us wondering if the three plots will intertwine and, if so, how and why. Most significantly, we are held in suspense questioning why Steadman, a good and innocent man, finds himself entwined in the kafka-ish nightmare of violence. Andrew Gross is the author of nine crime novels, all of which I read and enjoyed. He wrote five of them with James Patterson, whose collaborative writings are of mixed quality, but all of those written with Gross are excellent. I think that readers will enjoy this easy to read new novel.

The main mystery behind this book wasn't too hard to figure out. I mean the author basically spells it out for you way before the actual reveal. With that being said I have to say that the book was still interesting enough to hold my attention throughout. I felt the characters were believeable and that there was plenty of great action. My favorite part of the book was definitely the action towards the end. Overall this was a good book and I would recommend it to others.

Henry Steadman is a wealthy plastic surgeon in Florida who is on his way to meet a friend of many years to play golf in a very member only club that he considers himself very fortunate to have been invited. Following the golf day he is to present his experience at a medical conference. As he is stopped by the local police on the way to see his friend everything goes awry. In only seconds he goes from a successful physician to be hunted as a murderer of a policeman. To make matters worse his daughter Hallie is kidnapped. And he has to deal with his ex-wife who is a lawyer. Fortunately he finds a "friend" in the police department that aids him in his troubles. This was an exciting story with a great ending. I would recommend the book, Andrew Gross is an excellent author. I have enjoyed other books by him.

15 Seconds by Andrew Gross is a chilling page-turner which was hard to put down. Read this in one sitting. It is a story of an innocent man who is framed for murder. His daughter is kidnapped and there is a race against time to save her. It's safe to say that Andrew Gross has out-done himself this time around!

    A compelling psychological thriller - 5 stars

A fun read about a guy who is being framed for a "crime he didn't commit."

Very action oriented book, almost written with "the movie" in mind. I still found it infinitely more enjoyable than "Moby Dick".

    Pros:
It kept my attention, and even though you kind of know how everything's going to turn out you stay until the end.

    Cons:
See pros. You still know how everything is going to turn out.

What would you do if you arrived in town heading for your hotel and you got lost? What if you wound up at a busy intersection facing a one way street and you would be going in the wrong direction if you went through it? What if you decided instead of taking the wrong way onto a dead end street and turned left instead on a red light and suddenly found yourself with flashing red and blue lights in your rear view mirror of your rental vehicle? What if the police officer pulled you over and instead of simply listening to your story, wrote you a ticket not only for running a red light, driving without insurance and driving the wrong way on a one way street? What would you do?I think you'd probably wonder just where the hidden cameras were or if you were having a bad dream and kept wondering when you were going to wake up right? What if it only got worse, that instead of merely accepting the ticket, you decided to argue with the cop because you didn't really do any of those things except maybe the red light issue. So now Officer Martinez asks you to get out of the car and tells you that you're under arrest for obstructing an officer from doing his job and now the entire police force shows up. After a few minutes, they decide that perhaps they have been a bit too harsh with you and offer to give you just the red light ticket after all and all the police buddies leave. Whew, right? You'd be glad to sign that one and get on your merry way, but then a car pulls up and shoots the police officer point blank and leaves him dead. Now what would you do? You know all those local police boys know that the only person Officer Martinez was with was you and you were a bit upset by all this. Would you call 911 or would you flee?Well now you are in the shoes of Dr. Henry Steadman, a local plastic surgeon who decided to do both and is now on the run from the cops and his life will only grow more interesting in the latest novel by Andrew Gross, 15 Seconds!!! This is a heart-stopping, edge of your seat thrill ride from the very first page and one that you won't be able to put down until you finish your final page.I received 15 Seconds by Andrew Gross compliments of TLC Book Tours and William Morrow, a division of Harper Collins Publishers for my honest review. I have to say I inhaled this one. I was turning pages as fast as I could read to see what could possibly happen to Dr. Steadman and how was he going to deal with being framed after killing a local police officer. Now the man hunt is on and what you and Dr. Steadman will want to know is who it is and why is this all happening? A truly exciting suspense filled book at weighs in at a perfect 5 out of 5 stars. There is some profanity in the book in regards to a couple of the characters in the book that he encounters but overall a great novel!!!

Andrew Gross's latest book - 15 Seconds - is exactly the kind of story that draws me in from the first page. Everyday guy lands in a situation that is far from ordinary - with no idea what is going on. And that's what happens to Dr. Henry Steadman. While on his way to speak at a medical convention, he's pulled over by a local cop for a minor traffic infraction. Things escalate quickly and crazily and Steadman finds himself handcuffed in the back of the cruiser with many other cops now in attendance. Their line of questioning has him seriously frightened. Then just as suddenly, he's released and the extra patrol cars leave. Steadman is back in his own car, ready to leave as well, when a blue car pulls up to the local cop's car and shoots him point blank and races away. And just like that, Henry is a murder suspect. Things go from bad to worse when another body with connections to Henry is found. What is happening? Who could be doing this to him? Why are they framing him? Henry realizes he can't go to the cops, so he must find the perpetrator himself. I was initially sucked into the story quickly. As I said I find these kinds of stories irresistible. However, I found both the 'bad guy' and Henry somewhat tedious about halfway through. Their dialogue and actions become repetitive and the story lost its edge for me. Gross has co written five books with James Patterson and the same formula seems to have been used in 15 Seconds. Short sentences and short chapters with cliff hangers. Again, some of the sentiment, thoughts and angst of the characters is repeated - albeit with different phrasing - but the same idea. It became tiresome. I think I noticed it more because I chose to listen this book in audio format. The reader was Christian Hoff, who has a great, expressive voice for audio books. He has a good, clear speaking voice and easily used his voice to capture the tension and pace of this thriller. But again, it was just a bit too much - the breathiness and angst became repetitive and overly dramatic. But, as he's only reading what has been written, I'd have to say Hoff did a great job. Fans of James Patterson will love this book. For me, it wasn't great, but was a good accompaniment for a few long walks

15 Seconds by Andrew Gross4.5 StarsFrom the Book: An electrifying, lightning-paced story of a desperate man on the run, trying to save his family from the faceless enemy that’s determined to destroy them all. A gripping tale of a life turned upside-down in 15 Seconds, My Thoughts:Two dads and two daughters. One trying to blame everybody but himself about how his daughter turned out....the second dad trying to save his daughter. The story is a case of where a prominent doctor has his life turned around and upside down and no one will take the time to check his story or believe him. You can't read this without feeling the frustration and helplessness of Dr. Henry Steadman. There were some events that were portrayed that more than likely just wouldn't have happened...or at least not the way they are written....but they weren't enough to take anything away from the story. Get the book...sit back and enjoy the ride.

Sally Apollon Review 10/16/12 of15 Seconds by Andrew Gross4 out of 10Setting: Florida, Georgia, South & North Carolina—not areas I know very well. I think they were reasonably well-depicted. Description was decent—nothing outstanding or particularly memorable.Language: Easy-to-read everyday style, did not get in the way of the storyline; did not especially take it out of the ordinary either. Content:The story itself was fairly good—the characters okay and although the plot development defied all credibility, I did find myself rooting for Henry wanting him to escape, succeed & apprehend his daughter’s kidnapper. I did also appreciate the reality of the Oxycontin pill mills in Florida, I have a sickening awareness of the large problem of prescription medication abuse—which I think would be far less of a problem if there were not physicians willing to turn a blind eye in order to profit for themselves.

As the title suggests, 15 seconds can make a difference. In Henry Steadman’s case the difference was literally a matter of life and death. Looking forward to a weekend at a Doctors Without Borders convention, including a little golf with his college buddy, Henry is surprised when he is stopped for a traffic violation. His surprise increases when the police officer treats him as if he had his picture on a wanted poster. Much to Henry’s relief he is let off with a warning but as he drives away, the police officer is shot to death with Henry as the only witness. As these things sometimes go … Henry is also the only suspect.

Curiosity kept me turning the pages, so I suppose that’s a good sign but in same places the action seemed a bit forced. It almost had a “Let’s see what else I can do to torment my lead character” feel to it. Still, not bad for an action thriller.

When a random act of violence plunges him into a nightmarish world, Henry Steadman, a successful surgeon accused of murdering two people, must clear his name and discover who is trying to destroy him in order to save himself and his family. Summary BPLNice update of The Fugitive premise where an innocent person is framed for murders he/she did not commit. In a welcome departure, Dr. Henry Steadman is no Richard Kimble (also a doctor!) which makes for a more plausible storyline and easier for the reader to identify with his travails. The author reveals that the idea came from a similar incident in his life when he was pulled over by police and roughly handled with no probable cause.7 out of 10 For those readers who nurse a private fear of being arrested for a crime they did not commit.
