Alice's Zombie Adventures in Under City: Forging the Zombapocalypse
()
About this ebook
Preface
Welcome to the Second short work eBook in the Alice Zombie Series. This series is a short work series of eBooks based upon the novel Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. While not simply a rewrite, the overall tone of the book attempts to adhere to the spirit in which the original work was published. The Alice Zombie Series is planned to encompass three eBooks which will then be compiled into one final ebook. In the timeline of the overall Alice series by Lewis Carroll, this short work series occurs before the final draft of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.
This particular book covers the period shortly after Alice’s arrival in Under City and the beginning of her journey home. While Alice attempts to comprehend her surroundings in the fashion and spirit of good consumermanship, she finds she is often challenged to explain events by other means. She’s learned some trust for March; however, his seemingly haphazard, confusing, and distracted mannerisms cause her to question his logic and brilliance. Compounding the situation is a thinly veiled apprehension others seem to share about her return to Second City. Alice is merely concerned with returning to her parents but is there more she should consider?
*Parental Note*
While this ebook is based off of the Alice genre, it is not intended for adolescent readers. This ebook does not contain nudity or profanity. It does; however, relate the exploits of a teenage Alice and as such may contain discussions of mature subject matter and violence against fictional creatures.
After Preface
While the fictional violence against fictional creatures is not real violence against real creatures, the author would like to express his utter concern with the undead and that absolutely no undead were harmed during the making of this short work.

Nevertheless, here is presented the second book…

Alice’s Adventures in Under City: Forging the Zombapocalypse
Alice’s rapid departure from the Second City Caverns had both positive and negative consequences. Of course, these consequences not only affected Alice, who was safely traveling with March Hare unbeknownst to Madeline Hatter, but her family as well. At the appointed time both her father and mother sent Alice multiple messages and made calls to her digital device. Minutes later, they were both concerned about her whereabouts and began to ask the fellow party attendees. Finding little to no information, the family decided to split up and search.
Edith, having chanced upon Mrs. Cole asked in her most polite voice, as she knew Robert and Alice were most likely together, Pardon me Mrs. Cole but may I enquire as to whether or not you’ve seen Alice?
To which Mrs. Cole rather cruelly replied, No young Edith; however, I should hope Robert isn’t traipsing about with your sister and ignoring the call of his mother and father because of her wanton and frivolous ways.
Edith wasn’t sure exactly what Mrs. Cole was driving at but the sentiment pulled a silver tear from her eye when she was already upset and very concerned about the welfare of her missing sister.
As precious time clicked away, the parents of both youths became quite concerned. Neither of the Second City families would have gone so long without contact from their children. The punishment level increased as concern grew. At first both families intended to have a stern word with their children. Then they planned to limit access to their digital devices. Finally, they considered grounding. After the most severe punishment had been decided upon and neither Alice nor Robert appeared, both families just wanted to see their children return safely. Having exhausted their patience, the families alerted the sponsors of the party who insisted they wait a short time longer.
When Alice and Robert didn’t appear after that time, a search party was organized. Fathers and mothers went about calling for Alice and Robert to no avail. In actuality, it couldn’t be truly said that it was to no avail because when several barrel voiced fathers and several flute tuned mothers chanced upon the entrance of the cave at various intervals, their vocalizations bounced into the caverns and echoed inside of Robert Cole’s ears.
Unable to find the missing immediately, the organized event shifted from merriment to concern and the festivities were suspended. The Second City police were called shortly thereafter and once it was discerned that there was the potential that they could have gone in the cavern, the Second City Home Reserve was called. The cavern was immediately cordoned off and all unnecessary presences were sent to their domiciles. At the time that they were sectioning off the entrance, Young Robert Cole lurched and took another step toward the commotion that reverberated inside the cavern.
Hitherto as the evening approached and colored the park orange, the police and Second City Home Reserve were merely following protocol and did not see the need to march about strictly following the rules to the beat of the same drummer. Indeed this air persisted until a low watery moan ensued from the darkness. At first it wasn’t detected and various parties continued about their business organizing to search the caverns. Most did not understand the need for such regulation. For, you see, it was official Second City policy that the dead once dead could not in any manner whatsoever rise up and walk about. As lights that were connected to generators that purred softly were switched on, the moan came again but louder this time and the Captain of the Home Guard called for silence.
Dragging labored footsteps that sounded soggy and heavy could be heard in the cavern entrance and the lamentation of someone who seemed to be in considerable mourning came yet again. At first, a leg appeared in the light that fought against the pitch of the darkness. And stood unsteady and most scrutinized the clothed shaft in disbelief that it could be a leg. The darkness seemed to creep with the figure and most were not sure if it was indeed humanoid as they it didn’t appear to move properly.
The first true glimpse of Robert Cole as he stepped into the full light and confirmed what most wouldn’t believe shocked the Police, Home Guard, and the parents of both Robert and Alice. Robert Cole, having been ravaged from the attack he’d suffered at the hands of the wretches, was missing his left arm from the elbow down. Various cuts and lacerations adorned his body and his clothes were in tatters. Through the right pants leg it was visible that his calf had been gnawed upon. His head, that had once contained caring blue eyes hung to the left as great gouges had been taken from his neck and the supporting muscle couldn’t keep his topmost appendage upright. Standing there, barely able to walk, he moaned low as if his lungs were filled with liquid once again. On this occasion when the low pitiful sob ushered, there came a dark liquid from his neck, mouth, and nose that was a little much for the individuals present.
Above the din of the Second City Home Guard charging and aiming electro rifles, Second City police wrenching at the spectacle they witnessed, and the gasps of terror from all, Robert Cole’s concerned and loving mother whisked down to her son without a second thought. The Captain of
