- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5In 26 giant photographs-of a roaring grizzly, a piranhas razor-sharp teeth, a rattlesnakes poisonous fangs- Seymour Simon reveals the truth about nature's most misunderstood animals and lets the reader decide what to really think about natures grossest, fiercest, and most fascinating survivors.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Cockroaches, hyena, and bears, Oh my! Seymour puts some very good questions at the end that could go along with a lesson plan about animals preconceived notions that aren't always true.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book describes 20 different animals that are often feared by humans, but misunderstood. It follows a three paragraph format for each animal, which can be a good model for student writing. I will read the introduction and table of contents aloud to the whole class. I may even read about one particular animal and point out the writing organization. Then I will make the book available for the students to read independently for pleasure or research.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A clever collection of "creepy" and unloved animals that kids will love to read about! Great tips for dealing with these animals in their habitats as well as information from which to infer why they are so disliked. Is their reputation deserved? Simon lets the reader decide.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Very interesting and factual, probably would be much enjoyed by boys
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5One of the best informational books about animals out there for students in 3rd-5th grade. There are large colorful pictures of various "unpopular" animals such as sharks, snakes, spiders, etc. There are great facts for each animal.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I like this book because it is about animals.I love animals
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5loved it
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Although it scared me at times, I really liked this book. Its simple layout (each page was a new animal) and a table of contents helped navigation and facilitate learning. The writing explained complicated terms in simple language so that even young readers could learn. I really liked the use of photographs as illustrations because they were realistic and aided in proving why people generally don't like these animals. The purpose of this book was to inform its readers on gross/scary animals because every animal deserves to be learned about!

INTRODUCTION
Did you know that one blow of a grizzly bear can crush the skull of an elk? That a small fish called a piranha can be more dangerous than a shark?
This book is about animals that few people like and nobody loves. Some of these animals are dangerous. Some are pests. Still others may seem strange because of their appearance.
Many of the animals in this book have had stories told about them or books written about them. But it’s likely that not everything you’ve heard or read about these animals is true. Some animals just have bad reputations that are not based on fact. Animals are not bad or evil. They do what they must in order to survive.
You may never love a rattlesnake, a cockroach, or an octopus—but this book may help you begin to understand and respect them for what they are.
SHARK
The shark is the most feared animal in the sea. Some sharks are large and dangerous. Others are just a few feet long and eat small fish. Sharks come in many different sizes, shapes,
