      This is my second book by Ms. Kane having read the first in the series, The Girl Who Disappeared Twice. In this tale we meet Amanda Gleason who lost the father of her son before he even knew she was pregnant. The baby was born with a rare immune deficiency and needs a bone marrow transplant. Amanda is not a match and the best possibility would be the baby's father - but he is dead, or is he? Just as she is giving up all hope on her child's life a friend sends her a cell phone photo of a man that looks just like Paul - her missing lover. Is it him?Amanda doesn't know but she does know that she cannot find the answers on her own so she turns to the crack investigators at Forensics Instincts to try and find out what is going on. They have the skills and the resources to track anyone or anything. As they look into Paul's disappearance they discover that those that purport to love Amanda maybe hurting her more than helping her.I really like the characters that make up the group at Forensics Instincts - they are a lively and distinct group that work together well and in spite of some internal conflicts they come together for the good of the team. The banter between them is fun and the way they get the job done is the reason to read these books. Ms. Kane writes a fast paced, page turning suspense novel even if the sick baby was used a bit too heavy-handedly. I didn't see the ultimate bad guy coming but I will admit to certain suspicions along the way. I will look forward to the next adventure and case for this team.

      From my blogIt is confirmed, Andrea Kane is my new favourite suspense/mystery author. This is my 4th book read by her and I have gave all 4 stars and above. I read her first book in the Forensic Instincts series, here is my review of The Girl who Disappeared Twice. I was looking forward to more of this unorthodox team, the banter between them was great, sarcastic and humorous, a refreshing edgy group. Andrea Kane knew her fans wanted more and she allowed us to really get to know them, professionally and personally. In the first book it was the banter between the Police and the FI team I enjoyed but the change was that it was between them this time. The main thing I love about Andrea Kane's books, they are rapid, definite page turners and they always make me want to be a part of the team investigating the crime. All the books have had the constant go go go flow, without being convoluted, great execution with the balance of it all, description, dialogue, great plot and interesting characters. The Forensic Instincts team consist of a Behaviorist, a former Navy Seal, a technowizard, an intuitive, retired FBI agent and a human scent-evidence dog. They may be unorthodox in the way they get the information but they get the job done and in a hurry. They put themselves in danger because they are getting to close to forbidden information which make it exciting. Is it the FBI and cops they are competing with and making angry or is it the bad guys, and are the good guys bad or truly good. These twist are exciting and keep you entertained and engaged. At times you even had to ask yourself if the father truly existed or what part he played, bad guy or good guy.Many secrets are uncovered including political ties and the higher up you go you realise the intensity of numerous people covering up something, but what and why? Forensic Instincts is the team you want when you want answers, no matter what. The emotional pull about the baby was evident and at times I felt pushed in the readers face with repetition as evidence of urgency but I felt it was a little over done, where it could have been executed more as a roller coaster emotional tragedy. Was it a race to save the babies life absolutely and the overall plot was fast, definitely a page turner.When you read this genre all the time you can figure out the outcome, what is fantastic is feeling like you are part of the investigation and getting to the end.Andrea Kane is known as a Romantic Suspense author. She has some hot scenes but they fit completely with the story and are a bare minimum, executed to perfection, just enough to add the hot appeal to her books. I highly recommend, a go to author for me, when she comes out with a new one I will be reading and I am working my way through her previous.

      Read in July, 2012Read for Book TourOverall Rating: 4.25Story Rating: 4.00Character Rating: 4.50First Thought When Finished: Usually it is the case that wins me over in the thriller genre but in this case it was the characters of the FI team!What I thought of the Case: The FI team was hired to find the "missing and declared dead" father of a dying infant that needed a stem cell transplant. Why? There was a picture snapped of the father well after he died. The mom is desperate and the team will do anything to find him and save the baby. The case should have been nail biting, heart wrenching, and edge of your seat action. I think it started off strong and ended stronger but there were some pacing issues in the middle. That being said, I thought it was compelling, well thought out, and kept me interested. The twist at the end was brilliant!What I thought of the Characters: I am in love with the FI team! They are each so unique and bring such a great vibe to the thriller genre. Even though I am not sure they would have worked together under normal circumstances (I am going to have to get book 1 to see if it enlightens me more on how they came together), they click well as a unit. They each have strengths and weaknesses they bring to the table. How they figured out the case would not have worked based on just one of their skill sets alone, it took the whole team. I don't have a favorite member of the team but the geek in me is sort of leaning towards Ryan. What I thought overall: While there were some pacing issues; almost everything about the story, the case, and the characters was compelling. The mom, baby, and father story lines had plenty of twists and turns. You really are hard pressed to know who the good guys and who the bad guys are in Amanda's (the mom) world. Final Thought: I do recommend The Line Between Here and Gone to anyone who loves a good thriller solved by a team of dedicated but unorthodox professionals.

      Amanda Gleason's baby son is very ill. He needs a stem cell transplant from a matched donor to survive. Unfortunately, Amanda is not a candidate and the baby's father - Paul Everett - was the victim of a presumed homicide though his body was never found. But a friend has sent a cell phone picture that looks like Paul that she recently took in Washington, DC. Amanda takes the picture and all her hopes to Forensic Instincts in the hopes that they will be able to find Paul in time to save his son's life.The five members of Forensic Instincts - six, if you count the bloodhound Hero - take the case and almost immediately find out that it is much more complicated than they had thought. The head of the company is Casey Woods, a trained behavioral and investigative profiler. Marc is a former Navy SEAL and FBI agent. Paul is also former FBI. Claire is a psychic and Ryan is the tech genius. All are committed to helping Amanda save her son. Forensic Instinct's investigation leads to cover-ups, corrupt politicians, the mob and an FBI investigation that they are in danger of blowing. The story was well-done, exciting, and a hard to put down read. I had a pretty good idea who the major villain was early in the story but wasn't at all sure that the team would be able to find Paul Everett in time.When I began the story, I first thought that some of the dialogue was stilted but, as I engaged more in the story, I stopped noticing it. This was a very good story for lovers of thrillers that have high-stakes investigations but without resorting to any sort of graphic violence. The pacing is fast which goes along with the timetable that they need to meet to save baby Justin's life. I recommend this one highly.

      When photojournalist Amanda Gleason met real estate developer Paul Everett at a local political event out in the Hamptons on NY's Long Island, she through she had met the love of her live. Then he disappears, possibly the victim of a violent crime, although a body was never found. Police seem to think he is dead but Amanda is not convinced.Then she finds out she is expecting his child and wishes he was there to share her joy..until just weeks after the baby, Justin, is born and the doctors find that he suffer from an immunodeficiency disease and he needs a compatible stem cell transplant to survive. For medical reasons, Amanda can not be a donor and a match can not be found. As the baby grows sicker and sicker and all hope seems lost, a friend in Washington DC sends her a grainy cell phone picture of a man who appears to be the missing Paul. Is it possible he is not dead? And it it possible that he could be found and possibly be the donor for the son he does not even know exists. Whatever she is going to do, it must be done quickly if there is help of saving little Justin.So when you need the best investigators, you hire Forensic Instincts, a private firm introduced in Kane's first book in the series, The Girl Who Disappeared Twice. If you read the first book..and you should, it was quite good..you will be familiar with them all, but if you have not, don't be concerned. Everyone will be introduced quite thoroughly and you will soon be up to speed on Forensic Instincts and their various talents. They are a great team, and the interplay and balance between the characters is very well done. Behaviorist Casey Woods is their leader, Patrick Lynch, is a former FBI agent, Marc Devereaux an ex SEAL, Ryan McKay the techo-wizard, Claire Hedgleigh an “intuitive” and Hero is the human-scent-evidence dog. Even team needs a great dog, right?!Together they make up the team and are immediately on the trail of the missing developer and they pledge to find him, whether he wants to be found or not and no matter who else may be looking for him. What started out as a fairly simple missing person, maybe a love affair gone bad, soon leads places quite different, quite dangerous.The story is set in NYC (I would love to see the house Forensic Instincts is headquartered in) and Washington DC, with the rich and powerful and a few politicians, both local and federal. But the most interesting setting is in the various towns that make up the Hamptons, the playground of NY's rich and famous, and especially a glimpse into the tensions between the locals and the many investors that would like to develop the area and maybe ruin the flavor of the towns.Where money, big money, is at stake people are willing to do all sorts of things, bad things, illegal things, deadly things.And, of course, all this is pitted against sweet baby Justin, whose very life hangs by a thread and for whom time is running out, minute by precious minute.As I said, I enjoyed the first book in the series and I think this one is every bit as good. It is full of action and moves along at a fast, compelling pace, with a great and rather surprising ending. Good characters, a believable plot and an interesting setting..not to mention a good dog...make me recommended this one.

      The Line Between Here and Gone is the second book in Andrea Kane's latest suspense series featuring Forensic Instincts, an investigative team comprised of a behaviorist, a former Navy SEAL, a techno-wizard, an intuitive, a retired FBI agent and a human scent evidence dog. When Amanda Gleason learns the father of her dangerously ill newborn son may still be alive she hires Forensic Instincts to find him. As the team digs into Paul Everett's latest development project and his past, they discover links to shady businessmen, a Congressman on the take and the mob. If Paul is alive, is he a criminal or a victim and will the team find him in time to save Justin's life?It takes the talents of the entire Forensic Instincts team, who aren't afraid of bending the rules a little, to solve this case. I hadn't read the first book so this was my introduction to the characters and I like the mix of personalities, even though they are fairly to type. Kane shares a little of the teams personal lives to give them some depth, there is a budding romance between two members and the odd allusion to past lives.The story is well plotted involving conspiracy and corruption with a clever twist revealed near the end. There is a quite a tangle for Kane to work out, which she does bringing the threads together, it's a MIRA title so a happy ending is unsurprising but satisfying nevertheless.Forensic Instincts are under time pressure as the infant's health worsens which ensures the pace of the book is steady though it doesn't really find momentum until about half way through, partly because the some of the work is necessarily tedious as the team mines personal records, interviews suspects and searches for evidence. I would have liked a bit more action earlier in the story to break that up but I also appreciated the realistic approach to the investigation. Forensic Instincts resolve the mystery with hard work and evidence rather than blind luck.I think had I read the first in the series I might have been more invested in this novel, but it works fine as a stand alone. I enjoyed The Line Between Here and Gone, its a solid story of suspense and mystery with appealing core characters.

      5 STARSSince I have read Twisted I have enjoyed being a fan of Andrea Kane.Her newest book does not disppoint. This is the second book of Forensic Instincts that I have read.F.I. is Casey Woods dream. She has gathered together a teamof investigators who have different skill sets that work together in a different way than the authoritys can. Casey is a profilerand lives on the top floor of the building.Marc Devereaux is a former FBI and Navy Seal very skilled and doesn't mind bending rules.Claire just joined the team after working with them on thekidnapping case. She is psychic.Also new after working with the kidnapping case is RetiredFBI Special Agent Patrick Lynch. Patrick does not liketo break the law and joined the team to bring order.Ryan McKay is techno genius and strategic whiz. He builds little spy robots has very complicated computersystem down in the bottom floor.They all work well together and solve their cases.Amanda Gleason has a one month old son Justin who isfighting for his life and needs a bone marrow transplant tosurvive and he needs it fast. Amanda can't do it and her onlyrelative is not a match. Justin father Paul is the best chance to be a good match, but Paul was murdered before she evenknew she was pregnant, or so she believed.Amanda was sent a photo from a cell phone from a good friendwho knew Paul and saw him down in Washington D.C.Amanda took the picture and went to F.I. to hire them tofind Paul and help her save her sons life.Marc was the only one thier and took the case instead ofwaiting for the whole team to gather and decide.With Ryan's software they believe that Paul is alive butthey don't know if he faked his death or someone else did.is he criminal or honest & scared. They are determined tofind him no matter what gets thrown in their way.The drama and suspense is good you don't know who are the good or bad guys all are till the end chapters.       This is Andrea Kane's second novel about the investigative group called Forensic Instincts. I hope it's not her last! It is action packed from page one, and pushes you through a range of emotions, hope, fear, and anger, among others.A newborn's life hangs in the balance, and FI is called in to find the father who has disappeared. They all become attached to this innocent baby, and his mother. They will do whatever necessary in or outside the law to accomplish this.It is definitely not a book you can put down and pick up later. Enjoyed every page....thank you Ms Kane, looking forward to the next!
