About this ebook

Growing up in rural Texas, Mitchell Evans's ambition to be a dancer made him a target. Though he found success in New York City, Mitch is at a crossroads, and heads home for the first time in twelve years to figure things out. When what appears to be a reindeer jumps out in front of his car, he drives off the road and into the path of the one man he hoped to avoid.

The last person Texas Ranger Web Eisley expects to see four days before Christmas is his first love. He hasn't seen Mitch since they quarreled over coming out to their friends and family years ago. Though he's not in the closet now, Web has worked hard for the respect of his fellow officers, but he still regrets the loss of Mitch in his life. And his bed.

The attraction between them is as strong as ever, and it doesn't take long for the men to pick up where they left off. But is love enough to keep Mitch in town in the New Year?

The only thing I did not like about this book? It was way too short. The writing was compelling and I really wanted to read more about these two.

There was a love scene in here that was incredibly touching (actually made me tear-up). We traditionally think of romance books as written by "females" only, but Josh Lanyon has illustrated that a man can write just as good a love story. In fact, i would say that Mr. Lanyon is far better than other female authors.

I will certainly look up more from this author.

Ah, my favourite guilty pleasure. I don't know quite what I expected from Lone Star, with the premise of a gay ballet dancer and a gay Texas Ranger who loved each other as kids. Ballet is a really weird topic for me -- I was a dancer once, but it swiftly became obvious that I didn't have the right build for it. So I was sort of curious about, and jealous of, Mitch's life.

My teacher always told me I'd regret giving up dancing, but if I left I could never come back. I don't regret it now, right after reading about the bad shape of Mitch's feet, and the horrible competitiveness of his life.

Anyway, the dancing aside, I have no idea what the reindeer was about, in this story. It didn't seem necessary. But other than that, I liked it, liked the subtlety in the way Lanyon dealt with characters like Mitch's homophobic dad, who still loved his son deeply.

It's a short story and it definitely has a feel-good ending. Not sure it rates that highly for me compared to Lanyon's other stuff -- but that might be me remembering my first pointe shoes and the way my feet bled! I couldn't romanticise Mitch at all.

Read for m/m team bingo special holiday theme challenge.
3.5 - 4 stars. Hard to rate because I liked it a lot, but the story ended rather abruptly, I thought.

Once again, this author proves why he is one of my fave's and never let's me down. Always comes up with an entertaining story with realistic character's and dialogue. This is his Christmas story...short, but very sweet.
