Feeling Bad, Getting Better - R. W. Alley
A Message to Parents, Teachers,
and Other Caring Adults
Illness is scary for any of us, but it can be especially disturbing for children. Illness is an assault on one’s very person. It can leave a child feeling confused, afraid, and possibly even guilty. Those who are ill often also become disconnected from normal life, friendships, and interaction with the community. The sick child can feel very abandoned and alone.
Children need caring adults to help them navigate their way through illness, medical treatment, or a stay in the hospital. They will undergo procedures that they may not fully understand. These tests and treatments, though necessary and good, may be painful
