Playwright Heather D. Veinotte has written and directed more than 26 plays for radio and stage. As well as being a recognized playwright, she is the author of two novels, "The Mystery on Skull Island" - A young reader book and "Beyond the Mist", a paranormal set in the 1800's in and near the historic towns of Lunenburg and Mahone Bay. Heather's very proud of the fact that this novel was awarded Honorable Mention in the prestige Writers' Digest Competition of North America.She was born in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, the eldest of three children. Her love of stories began at a very early age when she would sit by her grandfather on his porch swing and listened enthralled as he wove tales about the "olden days" in Lunenburg County. Heather discovered the joy of books at a very early age. Along with the reading came the overwhelming passion to write, which she has never lost. She married her soul mate Bruce and together they have a son, daughter and two grandsons. They live in West Northfield, a charming community on the South Shore of Nova Scotia.

Alexander was ripped from his sleep by a loud crack of thunder. Brilliant streaks of lightning speared through the night sky. He sat up and checked on his brother snoring softly in the adjoining twin bed. Another explosion rattled the windows of their bedroom. Instantly the sky lit up with artificial brilliance, illuminating the entire cove.
Bronson rolled in his sleep. Both legs landed on the floor while his arms and head were still sprawled on the bed. He looked as if he were praying.
Hey Bronson, you’re on the floor again.
Bronson moved his blonde head to the other side and snored a little louder. Alexander sighed with resignation and jumped up, shaking his head at his brother. He leaned over and lifted Bronson’s legs till they were on the bed. Grunting, he pushed with all his strength till Bronson was lying in the middle of the bed.
Man Bronson,
he groaned, you gotta lay off Aunt Robyne’s chocolate chip cookies.
Thunder rolled ominously across the sky. His bare feet padded softly on the plush carpet as he walked over to the wide window that looked out over the water. Sitting on the padded window seat, he pulled his knees up around his chin and watched spellbound as forks of lightning lit the sky.
He leaned his head against the side of the window and thought back to when they came to visit Aunt Robyne three short days ago.

I don’t want to go and stay with Aunt Robyne. I want to go to Bar Harbor with you and Dad.
Alexander Veinotte stood on the doorstep of his aunt’s house and watched his younger brother wrap his arms around their mother’s waist. He rolled his eyes at his aunt.
