Jeremy and the Enchanted Theater - Becky Citra
Chapter One
The Enchanted Theater
Jeremy hated walking home from school.
First he had to run past the house where the mean boy lived. Then he had to run past the house where the big dog with fangs lived.
I wish I were brave, thought Jeremy.
He shivered. He got ready to run.
Just then the mean boy came out of his front door. Jeremy hid behind a tree. The boy picked up a rock. He threw it at an orange cat that was sitting on top of a fence.
Hisss, went the cat.
The boy laughed. He picked up another rock.
Then the big dog walked out of its yard. It growled. Its fangs were long and pointed.
Yikes!
said the boy. He turned and ran. He ran right past Jeremy’s tree.
Jeremy ran too. He ran ten whole blocks before he stopped. He looked around. The boy was gone. So was the dog. The buildings were dark and closed up. Jeremy was in a part of the town where he had never been before. He was lost.
Meow, said a voice behind him. Jeremy turned around. The orange cat had followed him.
Do you know the way back to my street?
