About this ebook

The Student Resistance Handbook provides students with information on how they can effectively fight back against their school and work towards abolishing this abusive and oppressive institution. Legal non-violent tactics are presented that are designed to: disrupt the operation of school, substantially increase the costs involved in its operation, and make those who work for and support schools as miserable as they make the students who are forced to attend.

    INTRODUCTION

Those who expect students to willingly endure compulsory schooling, and the associated deprivation of rights and assault on dignity, have no regard for the human spirit and no respect for the souls of children.

    —Cevin Soling

The purpose of this handbook is to promote the most basic civil rights to youth by empowering them to challenge the structure of compulsory schooling that denies these rights to them. The mission of educating people is not advanced through egregious deprivations of liberty and justice.

The philosophy of this handbook is that the primary task of those unjustly deprived of liberty is to engage in the struggle for liberty. Knowledge without liberty is meaningless.

Many of the actions described herein may have consequences. These consequences could include punishment, bad grades, social ostracism, or worse. Given the hysteria in schools and the abject contempt for youth in American society, it is reasonable to expect that reactions could be wildly disproportionate to the acts perpetrated.

You should never do anything that you do not believe in and, whenever possible, you should not do anything if you cannot accept the potential consequences. Most importantly: do not do anything illegal. This statement is made not simply to protect the author and publisher from liability, but because there are plenty of legal means to disrupt the system.

This handbook is merely a list of suggestions to show that there are possibilities for resistance. Many of these suggestions have not been tried in a school environment. You may come up with your own ideas and we ask you to share those with us so we can pass your ideas along to others. If you try any of these suggestions, please let us know the outcomes so we can share that information in future iterations of this handbook. Send notices to: mail@thewaronkids.com.

    WHAT ARE YOUR DEMANDS?

Resisting tyranny is necessary for the survival of the human soul.

    Cevin Soling

The essence of tyranny is not iron law. It is capricious law.

Christopher Hitchens, Love, Poverty, and War: Journeys and Essays

If you are looking to be warehoused in a more comfortable prison, this book is not for you. If you think getting a longer break for lunch or recess is a meaningful concession, this book is not for you. If you think better food in the lunchroom, more respectful teachers, and the end of standardized testing is what victory looks like, this book is not for you.
