    Chapter One

Georgina Allan was sound asleep in her bed in the hotel room, as it had been a very tiring day at work yesterday. The drive from her home to the lush woodsy hotel she would be calling home for the next week had zapped her energy, and she was happy to make it an early night. The comfortable wool mattress was an oasis for her weary body, and she wanted to stay in it forever. Georgina would do anything to buy some time away from her business associate Jeremiah Jacobson, whom she hated. It was bad enough she had to work with him on this project, but having to be here with him for the entire week was not her idea of a good time. And the fact that Christmas was coming in just one weeks’ time only made her more despondent.

Georgina opened her eyes, daylight peeking in from the drapes, and making its way to her face. She rubbed them from her sleep, and fluttered them a little but, nevertheless, was unexpectedly refreshed and relaxed. She stroked the lush cotton sheets that had housed her for the evening; it did not get any better than this. This had been the best sleep Georgina had had in a while; she knew once she would return home, she would have to change her bed and linen to recreate this level of comfort. Georgina sighed, and at this point turned, and was shocked by the sight she witnessed. Georgina saw Jeremiah sleeping next to her, watching her with great interest, his head resting on his hand. He smiled with his usual ingratiating grin, and Georgina gritted her teeth in response.

Has anyone ever told you you’re very beautiful early in the morning? Jeremiah said.

Jeremiah was shirtless, and, in disgust, Georgina pulled the covers closer to shield her body.

How did you get into my room? Georgina asked.

Well, if you really want to know… Jeremiah said.

Yes, I do, Georgina said, pursing her lips. What do you lie about?

Jeremiah let out a little chuckle, and threw back his head.

Oh, them’s harsh words; I didn’t lie, I just…fudged the truth, Jeremiah said, with a killer smile.

"You lied," Georgina stated, glaring at him. She moved closer to the padded headboard for support.

Okay, I withheld the truth, but I meant no harm, Jeremiah said.

That’s what you think, Georgina said, as Jeremiah darted his tongue.

Why make things more complicated than they should be? I rang reception, and, as they saw we arrived together, I told them I was your husband, but, we had separate rooms so we could concentrate on our work. But being newlyweds, we couldn’t stay apart for too long, could we? Jeremiah said, as Georgina rolled her eyes.

In other words, you lied to them - you should be ashamed of yourself, Georgina said.

Jeremiah raised his eyebrows in mock horror.

"Me? Ashamed of what? I did nothing wrong, I only wanted to be
