About this ebook

Her sins went well beyond the sheets.

Everyone believed hardworking, “good girl” Rainey Thomas always did the right thing, but the truth was Rainey had done plenty wrong. The bar for living holy established by her deceased mother was too high. Rainey and her sisters were drowning in their desires as they warred with their mother and her strict practices, even from the grave.

What Rainey needed was atonement for her sins. She kept up appearances until the web of a major drug trafficker ensnared her.
Malik Johnson made Rainey feel alive. He not only pushed her sexual appetite button, he enraptured her mind and captivated her soul. He was her soul mate, but was he good for her soul? With Malik, Rainey saw herself for who she really was, and the choices she made would have devastating consequences.
Will Rainey find herself before she adds more regrets? Will finding herself cause her to lose her God?

    Who I’ve Become Sample Chapter

    Chapter 1

I stared out the window, captivated by the movie replaying in my mind. I saw myself anticipating each delicate kiss, and the strong, tender embrace of his arms. Each caress forever engraved on my mind. I was trapped in a cycle of addiction because of what I had enjoyed.

Whew, it’s getting hot in here, I sat, fanning myself with my hand.

A few months had passed since our encounter, but the fire from those images of Malik and me still burned extra hot. My mother’s house should have been the safest place to meet Malik. I’d never be sinful inside Mama’s house. But I was wrong to lie to myself with my hormones raging.

Our earlier phone conversation and the text messages already had me simmering. I had no business meeting up with him. My burner had grown from warm to hot. As soon as he grabbed me from behind and wrapped his arms tight around me, pulling me close, I cupped my hands into his and held on. I felt the warmth of Malik’s breath as his lips brushed against my neck. My mind told me to cherish this moment in his arms. But I rebelled and turned to face him. I kissed him like he was going off to war.

And we ended up in Mama’s bed.

    It was so good.

    I had it bad.

Malik wasn’t my first lover, but he held the title of being my best. Every time I tried to refocus my mind, my thoughts snapped back like a rubber band to his sexier than legal body. I tried to suppress the tantalizing images, but I was in a prison cell I didn’t want unlocked.

The truth was I loved how Malik made me feel.

So, I was stuck in this forbidden place. I never did any of the chasing. I just slowed my church strut down long enough to be caught in his web of sensuality. I could hear Mama saying, I raised you better than how you actin’, Rainey Thomas.

At one time, Mama’s voice used to be stronger than the lustful call that pulled me toward the sheets, but then I heard and answered his siren call. Since then, I tried to block out her voice.

    Rain, open up. It’s me.

My oldest sister was one of only two people who knew I had a two-bedroom suite at the new Hyatt in Milwaukee. The contemporary suite, decorated with earth tones and hints of red functioned as my hideaway and escape from reality for the past week.

The king-size mattress buried beneath gold pillows was inviting, but the rest I needed wouldn’t come. I'd fallen in love with the cuddly, oversized tan chaise in the mini sitting room where I sat taking in the scenic view. The snow-draped pine trees mesmerized me, creating the perfect backdrop for my instant replays of moments spent in Malik’s arms.

I’m coming. Give me just a second. I wiped my eyes and tucked my medium-length black curls behind my ear. In an attempt to look presentable, I swiped a powder puff quickly over my cheekbones. My sister’s sharp discernment was akin to a human radar system, so I took another minute to smooth my pink cotton pajama top. The material mirrored my down and flannelly feelings. Usually, I’m the dress up type. Since I got the news, all I wanted to do was wrap up in a blanket and comfort myself.

Maybe Zora wouldn’t notice my slightly bloodshot eyes. I gave myself a once-over in the bathroom mirror and smiled. I'd heard smiling when you look and feel crazy helps cover up what's really going on inside. I decided to give that technique a try.

I swung the door open before she could knock again. Hey there, girl. We couldn’t embrace because Zora’s arms were wrapped around four brown grocery bags.

"You knew I was coming. Why did it
