    Ask a grown-up to help you with these activities so they’ll be safe and fun!

    Pattern Transfer Method

    You’ll need to make the patterns in this book bigger and copy them onto other paper before starting most of these projects. A copy machine or a computer with a scanner and a printer will make this job easy.

    Follow these steps for a smooth pattern transfer:

    Copy or print the pattern from the book onto copy paper. A grown-up assistant can help you make it the right size! (Adults, enlarge your copy so the width matches the size noted next to the pattern.)

    On the back of your copy-paper pattern, rub a pencil back and forth, making sure the lead covers where the picture is on front.

    Place your copy pattern (penciled side down) on the surface that you want to paint or cut out. Tape the copy paper lightly in position.

    With a ballpoint pen, trace the pattern outline. Press a little harder than you usually do. Be sure to go over every line carefully.

    To see the pattern on the new surface, lift the tape off the paper carefully, one piece at a time.
