MONUMENTS
SOLDIERS AND SAILORS MONUMENT. This monument, dedicated on May 15, 1902, is the most popular attraction in Indianapolis and has come to symbolize the city. An outstanding achievement of architectural and sculptural art, the Solders and Sailors Monument was designed by Bruno Schmitz, an architect from Berlin, Germany. At the time it was built at the turn of century, it towered above the cobblestone streets and all other buildings in Indianapolis.
