    Introduction

Eating a healthy diet is very beneficial to the body.  Junk food diets are detrimental to our health.  Below are some good reasons to start and stick with a healthy diet.

    Cholesterol Levels

There are several reasons why cholesterol levels may raise, one of them being genetics.  If genetics is the cause then your health care provider may have to prescribe a combination of diet, exercise, and prescription medications to help control it.  But for the other people, the cholesterol levels may rise due to inactivity (a sedentary lifestyle) and a bad diet.  Certain foods cause the blood cholesterol levels to rise.  When the cholesterol is too high it can cause a buildup of plaque in the veins and arteries.  This build up puts a person at risk for cardiovascular disease and strokes.

If you are diagnosed with high cholesterol levels, the first thing your health care provider will prescribe is a change in diet and exercise.  They normally give about six weeks of eating a healthy diet to lower the bad cholesterol levels naturally.  A big majority of the time, diet and exercise alone may lower the cholesterol levels and no other treatment is needed.   It makes sense that if diet and exercise will help to lower high cholesterol levels, diet and exercise may help to prevent high cholesterol.

    Blood Pressure Levels

The blood pressure can rise for a variety of reasons, from the diet we consume, to our lack of exercise, to certain health conditions.  Whatever the reason for the high blood pressure most health care providers agree that consuming a healthy diet is one of the lines of treatments.  If the blood pressure is high but not too high the health care provider may first prescribe a routine of dieting and exercise.  Just as with cholesterol levels, diet may help to treat and prevent high blood pressure.  Untreated high blood pressure may lead to cardiovascular disease and stroke.

Certain foods can aggravate hypertension and cause an unhealthy rise in blood pressure.  Dieting can be a measure of prevention for hypertension and can also be part of the treatment if high blood pressure is present.

    Immune System

Our diet directly affects the immune system.  A bad diet will not give the right nutrients the immune system needs to be strong and healthy.  Junk foods will weaken the immune system.  A weak immune system may be unable to fight off germs and as a result, we may become sick.  The right foods will have high amounts of nutrients that work with the immune system.  Nutrients like anti oxidants will help the immune system to fight off free radicals. Free radicals are responsible for causing certain cancers and other very bad health conditions.

    Blood Sugar Levels

Consuming a healthy diet may be a way to prevent and treat type 2 diabetes.  For people with blood sugar issues dieting is a must.  Junk foods aggravate blood sugar levels on a healthy person and wreak havoc on a person with diabetes or with blood sugar conditions.  Eating healthy nutritious foods are a way to help control blood sugar.

    Weight

Your weight plays a big role with the state of your health.  If you are overweight then either you suffer from issues due to the weight or it may happen to you in the near future.  Excessive weight may cause a host of health concerns including all the ones listed above with high cholesterol, high blood pressure, a weakened immune system, too high or too low blood sugars, and joint and bone issues.

More than likely the excessive weight is a result of consuming an unhealthy diet of junk food and or perhaps living a sedentary lifestyle.  Much of these issues may be preventable through a change in lifestyle by eating healthier foods and exercising.

    Metabolism

What you eat directly affects your metabolism.  If you eat a lot of unhealthy junk food, you may suffer from a sluggish metabolism.
