From the province of Guadalajara, Mexican Hat Dance is a traditional Mexican dance with music composed by Jesus Gonzalez Rubio. It is symbolic of Mexico both in the country and abroad. Traditionally performed by either mariachi bands or by bands playing only string instruments Jesus Gonzalez Rubio composed a standard melody for the dance as a symbol of national unity following the Mexican Independence. Its been featured countless times in film and on TV like for instance in Anchorman The Legend of Ron Burgundy, The Simpsons, I Love Lucy, Hard to Kill, Tiny Toon Adventures, Speedy Gonzales, Daffy Ducks Easter Show. In the 1945 film Anchors Aweigh Gene Kelly and Sharon McManus are seen performing the song and it also appears in Aaron Coplands 1938 ballet Billy the Kid
