I love the way she approaches and describes the subject. Author helped me build a better connection with Hekate. Short but packed with information makes it a great start for beginners. As a native Greek speaker, I found a couple of little errors to the Epithets and in one or two cases not perfectly valid explanation of their meanings. But, it is fine, I sympathize. The reader, as the author suggests, should dig deeper into their knowledge of Hekate after this one.

A good description of the left-hand vs right-hand path and overview of Hecate sigil invocations.

It was the first literal work I’ve read of Hecate! And I’m very satisfied. And yes I reassure you I will continue to read more and not let this be my only study! Thank you so much!

I am a Hekatean Priestess, and I am blown away by the accuracy and thought in this wonderful, short book. Anousen does a phenomenal job of breaking down the many roles that Hekate has played to her devotees throughout the ages. I was very pleasantly surprised with the wealth of information that this 38 page book encompasses. This is a MUST read for anyone looking to work with Hekate, inside OR outside of devotion. Definitely follow up this book with books from Sorita d'Este, Tara Sanchez, and Cyndi Brannon.

Was a nice simple read but helped answer a lot of questions that I’ve been seeking but couldn’t find within other books or research.

Introduction

Hecate is one of the most interesting and beautiful concepts of the Goddess in ancient Greek religion, and she has been a personal favorite of mine since I first learned of her. I think a resurgence of Goddess worship would be a wonderful thing for the world at large, also, and with that in mind I have decided to write a small book about Hecate, detailing a few facts about her and some different ways she may be evoked in magickal ritual. If you are not familiar with my other writings, I look at ritual from the perspective of Chaos magick, though I have a great love for ancient Spirits. A merger of Chaos magick methods and ancient Spiritual presences is, for me, my preferred form of magick, and this book is written with this in mind.

In ancient Greek paganism, Hecate is the Goddess of magick. Her name means worker from afar—which is itself an interesting definition of what a magician is! She has many aspects and qualities, as we will see, but her main role is that of the Goddess of sorceries and enchantment. Though all Greek Goddesses and Gods have magickal connotations, Hecate is specifically magickal, and represents a patron Goddess of magick itself, similar to how certain Christian Saints are said to be patrons over various things (I believe this idea was co-opted by the Christians to make Christianization of pagans easier, in fact). Many deities in the Greek pantheon are very important in mythology and their specific character is revealed most prominently through myth, but the myths regarding Hecate are relatively sparse. She is more of an emblematic figure, representing certain important concepts in Greek spiritual thought. It is this which also makes her so peculiar: she has a personality, certainly, but her mystical significance is what is most emphasized. In a way, this harmonizes with her magickal nature quite well,
