About this ebook

We look out into all the world and see suffering all around us. We wonder what kind of a dad would allow his child to experience a world like this, one full of pain and torment. It’s pretty simple to assume that our Dad is Mad.

Perhaps the suffering isn’t only out there, but on the inside. Perhaps it was your earthly dad as he betrayed your trust, crushed your spirit, or abused your body. In your child-like state, you couldn’t help but make the connection that your heavenly dad is just like your earthly dad, he’s mad.

Maybe you were lucky and had an amazing dad. But, life happened, and as one challenging experience after another hit you, the thought began to emerge more often that you must have done something wrong and your dad must be. . . mad.

Believing our heavenly dad is not mad, but is good and trustworthy is one of the greatest challenges of life. Journey through Our Dad is Not Mad: Trust Reclaimed and discover a father who loves you. . .beyond your greatest imagination!

    Dedication

    This dedication is for everyone

    who grew up believing

    their dad was mad

    because he abandoned, abused,

    rejected, and hurt them.

    May you come to experience

    the unconditional love

    of your heavenly dad

who calls you his beloved one

    in whom he is delighted!

This is what the Lord says:

"Cursed are those who put their trust in mere humans,

    who rely on human strength

and turn their hearts away from the Lord.

They are like stunted shrubs in the desert,

with no hope for the future.

They will live in the barren wilderness,

    in an uninhabited salty land.

"But blessed are those who trust in the Lord

and have made the Lord their hope and confidence.

They are like trees planted along a riverbank,

with roots that reach deep into the water.

Such trees are not bothered by the heat

or worried by long months of drought.

    Their leaves stay green,

and they never stop producing fruit.

    Jeremiah 17:5-8

    Foreword

Our image of God affects everything. If we see Him as distant, disappointed, uncaring or critical, why would we even want to draw near to Him, let alone put our trust in Him? The good news is that our loving God is none of these things!

Tamara Buchan and Lindsey Osborne write powerfully in Our Dad is Not Mad: Trust Reclaimed about your Heavenly Dad.  They include practical ways to support transforming your beliefs about his true character, along with how He feels about you. When you see and experience Him as He truly is, you will discover that you are safe, loved, forgiven, understood and invited into a close and healing relationship with the very One who created you.

Here is a simple story to illustrate. When I was 12 years old, my family moved from Canada to California and I was introduced to the avocado. I spent 2 years saying no to every invitation to taste what I perceived as a green, slimy fruit…yuck! Then one day, as I watched my friend’s mother peel and slice a ripe avocado, the thought entered my mind… Maybe it would taste good after all. I said yes tasted it and now I eat an avocado a day- yum!

What changed? My distorted perceptions and beliefs initially kept me away, then my openness to discovering the truth about avocados drew me close, and everything changed once I experienced what an avocado is REALLY like.

It is the same when it comes to your perceptions and beliefs about God and what is in His heart towards you. In my many years of work as a therapist, pastor and spiritual director, I have sat with hundreds of people who have experienced transformation and freedom when they grasp the truth of who their Heavenly Father is as they enter into a real and loving relationship built on trust.

In this book you are about to read, Tamara and Lindsey invite you to discover, experience and trust that your Heavenly Dad’s heart of love is all you had ever hoped for, and more…
