    THE STORY

Everything was going great in twenty-two year old Rolanda's life, that is until she met and married pro football player Kayvonte Albertson. Marrying Kayvonte ultimately meant compromising her morals as a Christian. When a fateful accident claims her sin-loving husband's life, Rolanda meets the very handsome and newly saved Donovan Ellington. It doesn't take long for Donovan and Rolanda to fall in love. But when the couple is forced to face the sins of Donovan's past, will they have the faith and perseverance to keep their love alive?

    CHAPTER 1

Twenty three year old Rolanda Albertson frowned over at her husband, as they stood downstairs in their very spacious family room. They had been at the discussion at hand for the last ten minutes.

She shook her head and grimaced. But I really don't want to go to this party, Kayvonte...I really don't.

Kayvonte pulled his bottom lip between his teeth, like he always did when he got irritated. He shook his sexy, bald head. Not every guy was able to pull off the bald look, but Kayvonte did it with style and ease. God had really blessed the man in the looks department.

He matched her frown with one of his own. He blew out a breath in irritation. He absolutely hated it when anybody disagreed with him. Plus, since he was paying all the bills in their upper-class place and providing Rolanda with a lifestyle in which she didn't have to work or lift a finger, he felt like Rolanda really didn't have any excuses for not doing exactly what he asked of her.

He shook his head.  Now, I already told you Rolanda...not everybody got an invite to this thing. You should consider yourself lucky to be going. He frowned at his wife. His dark eyes met hers. That's final...and wear that new red dress that I had the maid leave on your bed.

An hour later, Rolanda opened the passenger-side door of the late model Mercedes Benz sports car and settled herself into the soft leather seat. She frowned. There had been a time when they'd been dating when her husband of thirteen months had opened doors for her. But that never happened anymore—from almost the day that she had said I do.

Kayvonte opened the driver's-side door. He sat down and cranked the engine of the fast car. Then he slowly backed out of the quadruple driveway of the multi-million dollar home that they shared.

Rolanda grimaced at the slinky, sheer fabric of the fire-engine red mini dress that she wore. She didn't feel comfortable in the dress. She never would have purchased anything remotely similar to it for herself. It was something that her husband had bought and insisted that she wear. In other words, she'd only worn it to please him.

She shook her pretty, curly head. She saw nothing wrong with dressing nicely, but the dress that she had on was a bit overboard for her. She resigned herself to her fate of looking like a harlot for the evening, choosing to focus instead on the scenery whizzing past them in the moonlight.

The couple didn't utter a word between them as Kayvonte merged onto the interstate, leaving the wealthy suburb on the outskirts of Charlotte far  behind him.

Rolanda took a quick glance sideways at her husband. At six-feet and three-inches, with a stocky, muscular build, he was as fine as all get out. His rich chocolate complexion only added to his good looks. But being handsome didn't make up for what was missing in their relationship. It didn't make up for the lack of love and a lack of God.

She sighed inwardly. At this point, she literally hated being married to Kayvonte. Her mind quickly backtracked to the beginning of their relationship. Rolanda frowned. During their six-month courtship, she had been ecstatic that a famous, wealthy, pro football player had taken an interest in her. It's not that she wasn't pretty—she had been called beautiful by plenty of men in her short lifetime. It had more to do with the fact that she had been a part-time toll-booth operator and full time accounting student. Guys like Kayvonte weren't normally attracted to round-the-way, normal girls like herself. They tended to pair up with the more polished, Hollywood-starlet types.

No one at her church had understood exactly what she had seen in Kayvonte. Honestly, she and Kayvonte were literally polar opposites. Her first instinct when he'd stopped at her toll-booth and asked her out, had been to say no. But he was so insistent that she'd  eventually agreed to let him take her out to dinner. By the time he had wined, dined, and exposed her to the finer things in life, she had been smitten. He had treated her like a precious diamond and convinced her that they belonged together. It didn't take long for her to believe that they would actually make a good husband and wife duo.

Rolanda shook her pretty head, her curly hair bouncing above her bare shoulders. It had only taken four months of being married to Kayvonte for her to begin to see that they had serious problems between them. He never confessed to it of course, but she was sure that he was cheating on her. She sighed. God only knew what else Kayvonte was hiding in secrecy. Her husband had turned into a different person...right before her very eyes.

She frowned. She couldn't seem to squash the feeling of butterflies in her stomach. She knew that it had everything to do with the party that they were speeding to. As the car ate up mile after mile of the highway, her feeling of unease increased proportionally. She knew that she was not going to enjoy this little get together...not one little bit.

    *******

Donovan Ellington stood to the side of the double doors that would lead into the heart of the very upscale Club Divine. Seeing that Charlotte was home to both a pro football team and a pro basketball team, the club was frequented by many internationally-known sports superstars and their friends. Donovan nodded his head and smiled at the latest celebrity couple that entered inside
