This is a work of fiction. All characters, events, and places are of the author’s imagination and not to be confused with fact. Any resemblance to living persons or events is merely coincidence.

    Chapter One

Mia’s heart was pounding uncomfortably fast as she entered the room.

    Excitement, she told herself.

    But was it?

She hesitated by the door, trying to calm her racing heart, trying to gather her scattered wits to think.

Was she excited about doing this?

Or was that dread knotting her belly because this was completely out of character for her? Because it was wrong—for her.

Not necessarily the most moral plot she’d ever conceived, but not actually wrong beyond the fact that it was something she wouldn’t ordinarily do.

Well! She didn’t have to go through with it. She could always change her mind, chicken out, take off.

    Billy would be pissed ….

    But did she really care?

She considered that, wavering, and finally moved away from the door. After glancing around the dim room to get her bearings, she headed toward a narrow door on the far side of the room and opened it.

As she’d hoped, expected, it was the bathroom. She headed inside to relieve herself and steady her nerves, pausing to primp a little for the ‘date’ she still wasn’t sure she wanted to keep.

    Who was she kidding?

She wouldn’t be here if she wasn’t out of her mind!

And if she was out of her mind, it must surely be true love—or at least true lust, right?

But maybe it had deeper psychological connotations than that?
