    Surprisingly an enjoyable read. I have been a follower of the TV series Castle which is based on the book series. I have had to let some time pass before I could appreciate the story without letting the TV program overshadow in my mind. Well-written, good characters, lots of action and a plot, twisted and turning until the end.

    Enjoyable and fast read, with a great metafictional drive that has me seeing the CASTLE tv characters in their analogues in this novel. All in all, a great quick entertainment that was exactly what I needed.

    The beginning follows the TV show very closely. Than it goes in a different direction in the fate/story of the Captain. I enjoyed this version. I hated what they did on the TV show.The narrator is not one of my favorites.

    This Nikki Heat story drove me nuts! I ate it up and when I came to the end, I was gutted! There was another book to follow and it wouldn't be out for ages.

    The whole disgracing of Nikki was good and well planned out. Nikki's relationship with Castle was great and unfortunately, there's not much more I can say without wanting to tell you the ending. A brilliant read.

    I really wanted to like this book. I love the TV show, and I though, "how could the book possibly be that bad?"

    Well, it wasn't bad, per say. It was pretty mindless though. It's good for nothing more than a summer beach read. The writing style reminds me of something I would have read in 8th grade, maybe even a freshman in high school, but that's pushing it. I will admit, however, that the ending DID throw me a little bit, but just a little.

    Most importantly, for those picking up this one first, it's actually the third in the series, but I didn't know that & read this one first too. It really doesn't seem to matter much unless you don't know the show very well, and even then I don't see how it should be a deterrant. The characters are clearly based off of characters in the show and you can easily see aspects of them in the story... EVERYWHERE. The only redeaming quality of this book, other than the fact that it actually exists (b/c hell, who WOULDN'T want a fictitious book from one of your favorite shows to actually come into existance) is that it was so damn funny. There were times where I could see the characters from the show doing/ saying some of the things in here, and I would just crack up. The humor saved this book from being added to my "never again" shelf. It was totally worth reading, if just for the sheer comedic value. The comedy also made it a blissfully quick read.

    Wow, so much better than the first two Nikki Heat Books.This mystery starts with the death of a priest under suspicious circumstances. From there we get introduced to new comp characters as well as new bad guy characters.One of the interesting parts of this story was that Rook doesn't get introduced into the narrative right away, but a few chapters in. It allowed the mystery to stretch its legs a bit before the writer craziness intruded.On the whole the novel was so much better than the previous two. The characters were starting to become their own people instead of lame semi-carbon copies of the TV characters. They seemed like characters that a real writers (as Richard Castle is supposed to be on the TV Show Castle) would come up with and write.The story itself is better too, not so copied from the TV series stories, but still with winks and nudges that if you watch the TV show carefully enough you can see those same situations in the book as well.All in all it was an interesting novel, although I thought there was a bit too much sex between Rook and Nikki (don't ask me why, it just seemed forced into the grander narrative in some places). A solid four star mystery despite it being a media tie in.

    Nikki Heat is not afraid to enter any investigation, even one where her boss sticks his nose. Nikki is investigating the murder of a priest found at a bondage club. The Captain searches the rectory before Nikki can get there and things get more tangled as we progress. With Rook's help, the story is wickedly entertaining!

    I think this is my favorite of the series. I really like the character development as the series progresses while still tying in to the television series. I really enjoyed it!

    The third book in the series follows closely the personal arcs of the characters in the television show. The murder mystery is twisted around the lives of the main actors, and gets solved with the solving of the personal crisis of those characters. I am enjoying this series.

    I enjoyed this one more than "Naked Heat" (different ghost writer perhaps?). The beginning was a bit slow but when a character is killed about half way through, the plot speeds up and I enjoyed the end. Not bad in general for a light read.

    This story has a lot of ups and downs for Detective Nikki Heat. From her love life to her squad room, everything seems to be a mixed blessing. Can she trust anyone?A fun and fast paced police mystery, this kept me entertained. I enjoy the layers of relation to the TV show "Castle" with the author of this book being "Richard Castle." That is held up throughout, from the dedication to the author's thanks at the end. Of course there is a sly reference to Firefly. Although I was able to suss the villains fairly early, that didn't matter because I didn't get the whole picture until the end.

    Heat Rises by Richard Castle is the third of the Nikki Heat mysteries. A murdered priest, a stalker and a suicide are enough to keep Nikki busy and maybe cost her her badge.The shtick remains the same as the previous two: it's a mystery in the style of the Castle TV series, supposedly written by the author who is always following around Kate Becket. The problem though, as this Nikki Heat series continues is that the ghost writers seem to be loosing their grip on how Castle is supposed to write, while Castle the fictional character shows more and more sophistication in his craft on the television show.Take for instance the opening crime in Heat Rises — a priest is found murdered in a bondage club. Now on television, the writers have to resort to a lot of "nudge nudge, wink wink" to dance around the racier of the clues. The book not being regulated by the FCC could and should have been a bit more blunt with what goes on at the club. Shoot — they could have had fun with it and thrown in a little erotica. But they don't. It's not much racier or explicit than a no-name cable channel.I think the Castle books have reached a point where the original writers need to let go and hand over the job of writing these Nikki Heat books to other established authors. They could even give credit by making them books a "Richard Castle and."Despite it's flaws, I did still enjoy the very basic mystery. Part of that is my own fandom, of course. I don't think, though, that fandom alone will keep me interested in the series if it doesn't improve.
