Introduction
Hi! My name is Olivia Summers and thank you so much for taking the time to read my book Yoga Hacks.
First, let’s start by defining the term ‘hack.’ What does it mean? Well, simply put it’s just a modern day term used to describe a simply solution to a tricky problem. For instance, in this case the problem is not being challenged enough by your yoga practice or getting bored with your current yoga routine. The solution—or hack—in this case is the easy-to-follow tips and solutions offered up in my book.
Inside you’ll find over 30 different hacks
to help revitalize and switch up your yoga practice. If you’re like me and have been practicing for awhile, things can start to feel stale. Just like anything—in the beginning things feel fun and exciting and even somewhat addicting. But after a year or more of the same old thing you can start to lose your focus and slowly you begin to wonder why you started practicing in the first place.
First of all, don’t worry: the feelings you have are completely normal and I want to reassure you that there is something you can do about it. Just like a fizzled out love connection, your feelings toward your yoga practice can be rekindled. All it takes is a little newness and excitement to be reintroduced to help you get back on your game and fall in love with yoga all over again.
This book is your answer to sparking a new love for yoga with simple tweaks and changes that you can implement right away.
Without a doubt, the information that you’re about to read will not only improve your yoga practice, but all other aspects of your life as well—and that’s what it’s all about: the journey.
Hack 1: Experiment With Inversions
First though...what are they? Well, inversions are merely asanas (or poses) where your head is positioned below your heart. If you’re like most yoga students and you haven’t yet tried inversions, then I understand the hesitation. In class when I suggest these types of poses to my students I am often met with hesitation and a look of anxiety—sometimes even a very verbal, Hell no.
And I get it: the idea of completely turning yourself upside down goes against our entire sense of human nature. But that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a bad thing. In fact, practicing inversions on a regular basis is incredibly good for your health. Don’t believe me?
Here are some benefits you can expect from getting upside down:
