    Tommy stood on the car's backseat to look out of the back window, and held on very tight to the top of the seat so he didn't fall over as the car bumped and skidded down the road.

    Damn it. Bill said. There was a thump like he'd banged his fist on the steering wheel, Damn it.

    Tommy, Mother said from the front seat, sit down and do your seat belt up.

    Tommy didn't listen to her, because he was frozen to the spot, watching the bad people. They were running very fast after the car, and he was sure they were going to catch it. The nearest man stretched out his hands in front of him and his finger tips were nearly on the back window. He had a scruffy beard, and the tip of his nose had rotted away. It was very disgusting.

    Hurry up. Tommy said, They're going to get us.

    Tommy, sit down.

    The car turned, nearly tipping him over sideways, but he held on tight and managed to stay standing. The rotten nose man ran past the back corner of the car, and rattled the back door handle.

    Tommy jumped, and stumbled back towards the other end of the seat, tripping over and banging his head on the other door.

    Ow. He said.

    It hurt very badly, but he wasn't upset. He was too busy looking hard at the door whose handle was still rattling. He could see the arm and shoulder of the rotten nose man as he ran along next to the car. Tommy knew the door wouldn't open, because he'd clicked the lock shut when he got in; Mother always told him to make sure his door was locked. But what if he hadn't clicked the lock shut? What if he'd forgotten? Or what if the rotten nose man could open it anyway? Tommy's heart beat very fast.
