    NMC stands for the Nursing and Midwifery Council, the UK regulatory body for nurses and midwives. Some 690,000 health professionals in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are currently registered with the NMC. In fact, you cannot practise as a nurse or midwife in the UK without being registered with the NMC. The NMC fitness to practise process is protracted and can be very stressful. Case Law plays a very important part in NMC hearings and, let’s face it, the lawyers who are key players in the proceedings have no incentive to make this simple. The aim of this book is to provide a guide which will demystify the process and, even in the most difficult circumstances, help nurses and midwives get the best possible result.
