Overflowing with Goodness - Renee Allison

    Preface

I love waterfalls in fact I am a huge fan of them—especially those powerful falls that flow and gush out an overabundance of water which is simply too much to measure. They overflow with a steady force that rushes towards the mountain sides faster than a race car can reach the finish line. The Father’s heart of goodness towards you is just like those impactful waterfalls. His love for you is so lavish that He is ever willing and ready to give you all of His goodness.

God does not withhold any good thing from those who walk uprightly and live a life of integrity (see Ps. 84:11). He does not want to prevent you from having a good life. In fact He wants you to enjoy life since that was His original plan for all mankind. According to Job 36:11, If we obey and serve Him, we will spend our days in prosperity and our years in pleasures.

The God that you serve is ever mindful of you (see Ps. 8:4). He is your Father and He is concerned about every aspect of your life. His plans for you are all good and will work in your favor for His glory. For I know the plans I have for you, says the LORD. They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope (Jer. 29:11, NLT). He doesn’t even want you to get just trickles of goodness—He desires to pour out an abundance of His blessings over your life.

God wants to flood your life with all of His goodness because He desires to demonstrate how much He loves you. When you obey Him and live according to His Word He can’t help but bless you. Test me in this, says the LORD Almighty, and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it (Mal. 3:10, NIV). This goes to show that His goodness is so boundless that it cannot be contained in a limited place, space or time—it is both generational and eternal.

The God type of good defies our capacity to receive it all at once. Therefore we can confidently expect to live in the overflow of the blessing. God gives with liberality and He implores us to live our lives in obedience to His Word. The Lord has an overflowing love for you—He gushes with gladness at the very sight of you. That’s why He wants your life to be filled with an excess of His goodness until you can confidently say, My cup runneth over, (Ps. 23:5, KJV). Imagine living life in the overflow of God’s goodness. To overflow means:

To flow or run over as rivers of water, to have the contents flowing over or spilling

To be filled or supplied with in great measure

    To flow over, flood, inundate

To flow over the edge or brim

To fill to the point of running over

When you become fully acquainted with the Word of God then you will have a better understanding of the heart of the Father. In fact you will find it easy to live a life flooded with goodness when your life harmonizes with His Word. The knowledge of God within the Bible is where you will find the key to the fulfillment of your purpose. The God of more than enough who is El Shaddai wants to give you more than enough of Himself. But do you really understand what His goodness is all about? Are you fully aware of the promises, principles and protocol found within the Holy Scriptures? All of these matters are addressed in this book series which covers various aspects of life in relation to all that is good.

This is the first book in the Overflowing with Goodness book series which presents an expository, encouraging, biblically engaging read where I share my thoughts with you mainly based on scriptural principles. I pray that the words on these pages will flood your heart so that you can begin to experience living life in the overflow. This book was not written as a composition of my experiences—therefore it is not based on my experiential knowledge. Rather I wrote this book as an exegetic text that traverses the Holy Scriptures and digs deep into the treasures of God’s Word.

My prayer for you is that after reading this book you will have an in-depth understanding of the truth about goodness in the light of God’s Word. I am writing from the Father’s heart to yours. I hope that you will be enlightened, refreshed and inspired to embrace all the goodness that God has made available for you. I pray that you will live life in the place that flows with an overabundance of the Lord’s love—so that yours can become a life that truly overflows with goodness. My heart bursts its banks, spilling beauty and goodness. I pour it out in a poem to the king, shaping the river into words (Ps. 45:1, MSG).

    Introduction

    ––––––––

In a world filled with evil, fear, terror, destitution and darkness there is a chosen generation experiencing the overflow of God’s goodness. These are those who choose to live in the divine abundance that’s found in the Word of God. They cling to His promises and believe in Him wholeheartedly. While some may question if there is any good left in this world I have encouraging news for you—it’s everywhere—wherever there is someone like you and me who decides to believe in the Word of God and make it our lifestyle. Moreover because God is everywhere, the possibility for good is everywhere. For it is Christ in us the hope of glory (see Col. 1:27).

Wherever we are, we must learn how to plug into God’s goodness so that we can generate it in our own lives. Then we can influence our surroundings, family, community, country and the world at large. But it all depends on our capacity to understand, receive and share it with others. Our hearts and minds must be aligned with the way that God wants us to think and act in the earth. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure (Phil. 2:13, KJV). We are His representatives to the world in which we live since we are called ambassadors of Christ (see 2 Cor. 5:20). Our foundation is built upon the relationship that we have with Him. Moreover we become more acquainted with His ways by meditating on His Word daily.

Are you mentally, spiritually and emotionally connected to the Word of God to the extent that it influences every aspect of your life? If not, then you will never fully experience a totality of the goodness that comes from the God of it all. You should desire to get to that place in life where you can elevate your thoughts to the territory of God’s truth. This is how you can become so infused with His Word to the extent that you will begin to see, feel and experience His goodness in every aspect of your life.  Moreover because God is over all and He is sovereign you must believe that it is not evil that is in control but rather it is good that reigns supreme.

Despite the chaos, wickedness and distress that seems to be taking over the world today there is hope. You can have peace, love, joy, contentment and a calm assurance that comes from the goodness of God’s grace—when you choose to live your life in His Word. When you have a strong connection to the source of goodness you will see yourself the way God sees you. Likewise once you realize that the Lord can work in you, you will know that your life was created for purpose and greatness.

The abundant life that Jesus came to give us can only be experienced by believing in God’s Word—that is where we can have access to His goodness. We must always be conscious of the fact that the Bible is not just a historical book filled with spiritual stories for the purpose of religiosity. Rather the Bible is the written Word of God. That may seem like a simple statement but it is quite profound.

Jesus who is the Living Word used the written Word of God when he was here on earth. In Matthew 4: 10, Jesus said to him, ‘Away from me, Satan! For it is written: 'Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.' (NIV). Notice that Jesus made reference to the written Word and used it to overcome the devil. The truth is that the Word of God is powerful—it is alive and active. "For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart" (Heb. 4:12, KJV).

The Word of God is proven and tested so we can be assured that He will never fail us. This God—his way is perfect; the word of the LORD proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him (Ps. 18:30, ESV). The word of God is flawless and true. For the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in truth (Ps. 33:4, KJV). The word of God is eternal. Forever, O LORD, Your word is settled in heaven (Ps. 119: 89, NASB). The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever (Is. 40:8, KJV).

The Word of God is instructional and inspirational. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work (2 Tim. 3: 16 -17, NIV). That’s why we can only access the abundant life of goodness that Jesus spoke of by living our lives according to God’s Word. Jesus is the Living Word. Therefore God and His Word are one, they are inseparable, they are one and the same. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God (John 1:1, NIV).

When we begin to look for goodness in terms of God’s perspective we must seek for it in His Word. Evidently if God’s Word fills your life then you will be filled with His goodness. God is always looking for someone who He can work through. Then the LORD said to me, You have seen well, for I am watching over My Word to perform it." (Jer. 1:12, NASB). God can only perform His work through us when He finds His Word in us. We must be full of the Word and also full of wisdom and understanding so that we can know how to live life effectively. That’s exactly what the world needs right now—people filled with the Word of God who are conscious of their personal power with God. These are the people who are conduits of God’s goodness in a world that seems to be on the brink of losing the war
