    He found me.

I've been waiting for so long for this moment to come. I have yearned so much for the taste of his lips. I've longed for the warmth of his touch against my cold skin. Those words my heart ached to hear will finally soothe the pain it has borne.

    Today, I will tell him.

He must know. He needs to know.

    "A study in scarlet, eh?

Why shouldn't we use a little art jargon?

There's the scarlet thread of murder

running through the colourless skein of life,

and our duty is to unravel it,

    and isolate it,

and expose every inch of it."

    CHAPTER 1. Phone call

Good evening. This is Cara Stoetend of CNC News. The Palace has announced its...

Everyday news. Anything new about it? People killed, mall robbed, child abducted – what's so new about these occurrences? Everything is evil in this world – including the media. Besides, I believe that the world itself is manipulated by the media. Sometimes I wondered if media has ever shown the truth. Or was it a controlled, manipulated truth? Or was it nothing but an illusion, a wild creation of one's thinking?

Life of an investigator is like entering a tunnel whose end seems farfetched. Aside from my personal knots in life, I have to deal with other people's – people I have barely known, or, most likely, those I have never known at all. I remember one time when the agency called on the wee hours of morning. A seventeen-year-old girl was seen lying dead on her bed – her body covered in blood, a deep cut on her chest, and a kitchen knife on her left hand. According to police reports, the girl committed suicide, since the fingerprints on the knife matched hers. But I know better. I immediately went to the crime scene and examined the place. Later did we find out, and proved, that the girl did not commit suicide, but was killed in a perfectly planned way. How was she killed without anyone inside the house? Without anyone caught on surveillance cameras a few hours before and after her death? You'll be more surprised to know. Perfect timing, my dear friend, is the key. That I have found out from my 15 years of service in this field.

After being exposed to these grotesque crimes, what more is frightening with everyday news?

    Phone rings.

Oops. Looks like I'm on my way to another tunnel.

    Hello?

Hey, Luke! Turn on your television. It's about the gardener, said Bruce Beckman, my co-investigator in the agency.

"Who is he? What's with the gardener? I
