Über den Autor

Ann is Queen of the Castle to her wonderful husband and three sons in the mountains of West Virginia. In her past lives she's been an Import Broker, a Communications Specialist, a US Navy Civilian Contractor, a Bartender/Waitress, and an actor at the Michigan Renaissance Festival. She also spent a summer touring with the Grateful Dead-though she will deny to her children that it ever happened. From a young age she's been fascinated by myths and fairytales, and the romance that often was the center of the story. As Ann grew older and her hormones kicked in, she discovered trashy romance novels. Great at first, but she soon grew tired of the endless stories with a big wonderful emotional buildup to really short and crappy sex. Never a big fan of purple prose, throbbing spears of fleshy pleasure and wet honey pots make her giggle, she sought out books that gave the sex scenes in the story just as much detail and plot as everything else-without using cringe worthy euphemisms. This led her to the wonderful world of Erotic Romance, and she's never looked back. Now Ann spends her days trying to tune out cartoons playing in the background to get into her 'sexy space' and has learned to type one handed while soothing a cranky baby.

Sam and Cody - Ann Mayburn

Chapter 1

Cody McPherson tugged at the sleeve of his black pinstripe suit and attempted to ignore the slight shaking of his hands. With his heart pounding in his ears, he tried to get up the courage to approach the handsome man at one of the roulette tables dominating that portion of the Las Vegas Castillo Casino and Resort. As he watched from his partially obscured vantage point behind a carved limestone pillar, he felt like bashing his forehead against the rock until he knocked some sense into his thick skull. He should turn around, get in his truck, and go find some willing woman for the night. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a woman who haunted his dreams, who made his dick as hard as the stone he hid behind. It wasn’t a woman’s soft curves starring in all of his masturbation fantasies over the past five months and had him on the edge of going insane with want.

It was the amazing man across the room, Sam Denham, who held that dubious honor. Cody always considered himself as straight as they came, one hundred percent heterosexual. Hell, he’d even been married for a while though it didn’t work out for a variety of reasons. Until he met Sam, he’d never even thought of a guy as someone other than a buddy. All that changed five months ago when he’d seen the handsome stonemason on a construction site.

Sam owned a marble and stone business and had one of the biggest stocks of fine Italian marble in Las Vegas. As the foreman for a local construction company, Cody met him when he delivered the first of many batches of marble, limestone, and travertine to the construction site of a new luxury spa. He could still remember his first glimpse of the other man. With short dark hair brushed into a spike and a smile that warmed Cody all the way to his toes, he’d instantly captured his attention. He’d slid from his truck with an almost feline grace, and for the first time in his life, Cody noticed how nice of an ass the subcontractor had. He’d worn a pair of beat up jeans that clung to his lean hips and strong legs.

Even now, he had to admit Sam had a world class butt.

When they’d shaken hands, an electric zing had traveled all through his body and settled in his cock. At the time he’d dismissed it as some fluke reaction to having been in the sun all day, but that excuse ran thin pretty quickly. Every time they touched, he got the same sensual shock, and he had a feeling Sam got it as well. He couldn’t count the number of times he’d caught Sam staring at him, how his body tightened when Sam’s deep brown eyes stroked over him.

Sam glanced across the casino in his direction and Cody darted behind the pillar, feeling like an idiot. All the courage and smoothness he normally had with women totally deserted him around Sam. Still, he couldn’t resist peeking around the pillar again. A passing elderly woman gave him a suspicious look and he flushed, realizing he must look like a weirdo sneaking peeks around the column.

He tried to make his feet move, but they remained frozen in place.

At work it got to the point where he couldn’t stand to be alone with Sam, afraid one of them might finally break the terrible, wonderful sexual tension that increased every time they met. Thank God Sam was an expert stonemason and could be trusted to work on his own and not mess up. Though when Sam worked on site, Cody often took lunch with him. He lost track of time as they talked about everything from sports to their dreams of building their own homes someday. Though Sam never made anything even close to a pass at him, he still became more and more attracted to the other guy, and he couldn’t stop being around him.

Hell, he didn’t even know if he had the same feelings Cody had or if it was just his imagination. Sam sure didn’t look like one of those effeminate gay guys he saw around Vegas. No, Sam’s good looks held a distinctively rough and masculine edge. His hands were as calloused and work hardened as Cody’s and one of his favorite fantasies consisted of imagining those strong hands gripping his hips as Sam filled his ass with his cock.

At the roulette table, Sam smiled and chatted with a pretty woman with half of her breasts spilling out of a tight gold top. Dressed in a suit, he reminded Cody of James Bond. Sam had a thin veneer of sophistication barely masking a dangerous interior. He almost left right then, sure Sam would rather spend the night with the curvy woman than him. Only the sight of the pale lavender tie that he wore stopped him.

The tie marked Sam as his date as plainly as a brand.

A month ago, Sam had delivered the last load of marble to the almost-finished spa. As usual, he brought his laptop and left it open with the order for Cody to go over and double check to make sure their invoices matched. While the Sam worked in a different portion of the site, Cody used his computer to go over the figures. An open tab at the bottom of the screen said ‘1Night Stand.’ Curiosity overcame him and he’d opened the page. To his astonishment, the page contained a form for a matchmaking service detailing what Sam wanted in his date.

Though feeling guilty as hell for invading his privacy, Cody was unable to look away. The more he read Sam’s wish list, the more he realized he fit all those requirements, like Sam was looking for Cody. Late-thirties male—check. Blond hair and hazel green eyes—check. Masculine and rugged—check. He might not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but he was pretty sure that Sam was thinking about him when he filled out the dating application.

That night, after jacking off yet again to the idea of Sam sucking his dick, he’d looked into the 1Night Stand dating service. He’d read the website probably forty times over the next week before he’d worked up the nerve to sign up. The background check took another week until he’d finally been approved. Next came filling out the application and doing everything he could to skew the results toward meeting up with Sam.

He couldn’t remember the last time he’d been so nervous, or excited about a date. An anticipation he hadn’t felt in years made his blood boil as he took a deep breath and stepped from behind the pillar. A passing waitress gave him an appreciative glance and a flirty smile so he figured the suit he wore was worth the five hundred dollars he’d paid for it. Around his neck hung a lavender tie a few shades darker than the tie Sam wore.

Taking a deep breath, he barely noticed his legs move as he approached the gaming table where his blind date laughed at something the brunette said. It felt as if he was on one of the moving walkways at the airport, like his body stood still and the world carried him along to Sam. Before he knew it, he stood next to the object of his obsession as the dealer spun the ball around the roulette wheel, the ticking of the spokes keeping pace with his racing heart.

Sam froze as a familiar voice said from his left, Mind if I squeeze in?

His entire body heated in an instant, his blood like gasoline and the rumbling voice a match. It took a great deal of effort to force the air back into his lungs as he turned toward Cody with a smile and moved down the side of the roulette table a bit. He wanted to grab Cody’s face between his hands and kiss him until the husky blond man couldn’t see straight. Too bad that would only get him a punch to the jaw, if he was lucky.

Hey, Cody. He stole a quick glance at his chiseled jaw and scooted down a little more, then smiled at the dealer as his winnings doubled from a lucky bet. I didn’t know you liked to hit the casinos.

Cody cleared his throat, his low voice deep enough to remind him of stones grinding together. Ah, yeah, I hit the tables from time to time. He pulled some chips from his jacket pocket and said in a lower voice, "Actually, I’m here because

I-I have a...uh, date. A blind date."

Time slowed as Sam shoved a few chips onto a random number. Hope surged through him as Cody tossed a couple chips on the square next to his. The golden hairs on the back of his hand gleamed beneath the casino lights and the copper cuff he wore on his wrist peaked out from the edge of his cream shirt. Though Cody was surely there to meet someone else, he couldn’t help but look at his forbidden crush. The utterly handsome, utterly straight foreman who had turned his world inside out.

Cody met his glance for a moment, his hazel green eyes dark with some unnamed emotion before he turned his attention to the roulette wheel. Instead of his usual battered work clothes and hard hat, the handsome blond wore a dark suit that fit his muscular body like a glove. As Sam tore his eyes away from Cody’s broad shoulders, he forgot to breathe as he saw his black and lavender tie. A tie exactly like the one Madame Eve of the 1Night Stand matchmaking service said his blind date would be wearing.

The last of the bets were made and the pretty woman next to him made some dippy comment about ‘baby needing a new pair of shoes.’ Cody remained silent and smoothed a tanned hand over his tie while darting a glance at Sam.

Swallowing, he tried to keep his tone casual. I’m meeting someone here, too. He mentally cursed his lack of smoothness and tried again. A blind date.

Cody kept his eyes glued to the roulette table. Wonder if he’ll show up.

Sam’s heart raced as he realized Cody had said ‘he.’ That meant Cody knew that Sam’s date would be a man. What were the chances that Cody would just happen to show up here, tonight, wearing that tie and meeting up with him? Either this was the biggest coincidence that fate had ever thrown his way, or Cody was his date.

Holy shit, Cody is my date!

Feeling incredibly awkward and excited, Sam barely noticed when he lost the round to the spin of the wheel. Cody, on the other hand, won and swept up his winnings. Sam wet his lips and picked up all of his chips, ignoring the brunette who kept making not-so-subtle hints about having
